JUSTIFICATION
•

Preface

•

The majority of Conversational English Programs do not include real
communicative strategies. Most materials of conversational English

programs are designed for second language learners. Consequently,
students have a nonrealistic language experience. This provokes in
students bookish English; in other words, a mere book learning of

English, contrary to colloquial and informal language.

CONCLUSION
In the case of a documentary, people are really sharing a
testimony that is why the material includes different tones
of voice. For students it is a great practice to be exposed to

this kind of experience because regarding a person´s
emotion his or her speed would vary. It is not the same to
have a normal interaction with somebody than to

euphorically claim about something
RECOMMENDATIONS
• The English program of Executive for Service Centers should:
• Include activities in which students can become familiar with the
different English accents.
• Train students to be able to confront difficult situations with

customers, not only from the management point of view, because
students must be able to understand the language regardless the
tone of voice or speed in which the client communicates.
• Include authentic listening activities in order to develop students´
listening skills in real context situation.
PROPOSAL
• Authentic materials are an ideal solution for most of the
English teaching complications. One of the biggest problems
that call centers workers face every day is the big difficulty
they have understanding native English and the main reason
is because English is spoken in more than fifty different
regions and in each region people have their own accent. The
way to bridge this gap is by bringing authentic materials from
different English spoken regions.

ANALYSIS OF THE ADVANTAGES OF TEACHING CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH THROUGH THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN TENTH GRADE OF EXECUTIVE FOR SERVICE CENTERS FROM COLEGIO TÉCNICO PROFESIONAL DE FLORES

  • 1. ANALYSIS OF THE ADVANTAGES OF TEACHING CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH THROUGH THE USE OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS IN TENTH GRADE OF EXECUTIVE FOR SERVICE CENTERS FROM COLEGIO TÉCNICO PROFESIONAL DE FLORES María Jiménez Beirute.
  • 2. JUSTIFICATION • Preface • The majority of Conversational English Programs do not include real communicative strategies. Most materials of conversational English programs are designed for second language learners. Consequently, students have a nonrealistic language experience. This provokes in students bookish English; in other words, a mere book learning of English, contrary to colloquial and informal language.
  • 3. VARIABLES • 1.Authentic Materials Advantages 2.The reaction of students about Authentic Materials activities
  • 4. ADVANTAGES OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS QUESTIONS 1. Does it attract the student YES X attention? 2. Does it contain expressions that X are constantly repeated? 3. Does it include different English X accents? 4. Does it include different intonation patterns? X NO
  • 6. STUDENTS HAVE LEARNED PHRASES THAT ARE USED BY NATIVE SPEAKERS
  • 7. STUDENTS USE AUTHENTIC MATERIALS AT HOME
  • 8. CONCLUSION In the case of a documentary, people are really sharing a testimony that is why the material includes different tones of voice. For students it is a great practice to be exposed to this kind of experience because regarding a person´s emotion his or her speed would vary. It is not the same to have a normal interaction with somebody than to euphorically claim about something
  • 9. RECOMMENDATIONS • The English program of Executive for Service Centers should: • Include activities in which students can become familiar with the different English accents. • Train students to be able to confront difficult situations with customers, not only from the management point of view, because students must be able to understand the language regardless the tone of voice or speed in which the client communicates. • Include authentic listening activities in order to develop students´ listening skills in real context situation.
  • 10. PROPOSAL • Authentic materials are an ideal solution for most of the English teaching complications. One of the biggest problems that call centers workers face every day is the big difficulty they have understanding native English and the main reason is because English is spoken in more than fifty different regions and in each region people have their own accent. The way to bridge this gap is by bringing authentic materials from different English spoken regions.
