2. INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM
• Generally, the problems in learning English as a second foreign language
in non- English speaking countries. This investigation has a main purpose
to explore the factors and weakness that affects the level of the students.
This study focuses on the reasons that impact on their poor English
performance. There are some questions that can be examined for
instance: parents providing support, motivation, and encouragement to
learn English. Teachers are trained property and competently.
3. JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
• In Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola most of students in English does not
have good scores or they are not interested to be better because it
is difficult for them.
• The idea to analyzing in deep why the English level at Instituto
Paraíso is low, it is because there are many reasons that students.
Those reasons are affecting enquiry of the techniques and methods
to learn a Foreign Language.
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• What are the factors that determine the low English level in the
teaching and learning process in 7th graders at Instituto Paraíso,
2019.
5. GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To analyze the factors that determine the low academic English level
in the teaching and learning process in 7th graders for implementing
mediation strategies that improve in the performance of the students
at Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola, 2018.
6. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• To determine the level of English that 7th graders possess
respect to practice in their daily life with the purpose of
design techniques that boost their performance.
• To identify the educative factors that interfere in the English
learning process of 7th graders for suggest improved
actions.
7. • To identify the time that 7th graders dedicate to the estudy of
English Foreing Language (EFL) whit the purpose of improve
learning strategies.
• To recognize the role of the teacher in the proces of teaching
English as a Foreing Language (EFL) in 7th graders for boosting the
English Learning Techniques.
• To propose the design of adequate teachingand learning
techniques that encourage the English level.

9. SCOPE : This investigation will be carried out in relation to the
English level of 7th graders of Instituto Paraíso Sixaola, located in
Talamanca, circuit 04 of the Educative Regional Limón, during the
second period of 2018.
LIMITATIONS : There are no limitations detected by the researchers
that interfere the development of the investigation.
10. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK
• The construction of the Instituto Paraíso has been made in 2002, the first part
was made only for primary school, and the second part was built in 2007 for high
school. Since the date the building is the same.
• The total population is conformed by 350 students, all belong to different ethnic
groups like Costa Ricans, Panamanians, and Nicaraguans and a little
indigenous. They from the communities Paraiso, Margarita, Bolio, El Parque, and
Daytona. The administrative are of the institution is conformed by the principal,
two office worker, a librarian, three janitors, and two security guard. Also it counts
with a teaching staff by 18 teachers of different subjects.
11. HISTORICAL REVIEW OF INSTITUTO PARAÍSO,
SIXAOLA
• Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola is a Public educational institution its
budgetary code is 5969. It belongs to Public Ministry of Education
of Costa and works under code 03 of Cahuita local Direction. It was
created in 2002 and began its process teaching in Paraíso
community. It worked only as a primary school with a daily journal
and its before name a Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola, its name was
current until the year 2007. It is actually enrollment is 350 students,
and 70 students of seventh grade which come from the local
community as well the neighbor ones.
12. MISSION
“Provide an excellent educational quality according to the needs of
the population, to increase they knowledge and effort all those
involved in the educational system, adjusting all the guidelines,
through different strategies, support the families, the students could
continuous their students with a good educational academic
average”.
13. VISION
To be an alternative academic aimed at the students of seven
graders, which integrates, students, parents and teachers, and the
teaching process with an outstanding aptitude.
14. PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT THE POPULATION
• Poverty
• Single-parent family
• Lack of health centers
• Environmental problems like floods.
• Drugs
• Bad conditions of the roads.
• Lack of communication of the leaders.
• The passivity of the citizens.
15. MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS
• Regarding to the achievements that Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola has
been trying to achieve, to stop the school dropout, sometimes
students being bored and seeing no connection between academic
life and "real" life
16. MAIN PROBLEM
• At Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola there are some deficiencies, for
instance the building is in bad conditions, the construction of the
new high school is not advancing, there are not drinking water,
there are not enough chairs and tables, and sometimes with heavy
rains the high school is flooded.
17. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Education is a huge conscious effort to create an atmosphere of
learning and the learning process so the learners are actively
developing the potential for them.
18. COSTA RICA EVALUATION SYSTEM
The evaluation has come to be seen as a key tool to improve student
learning in Costa Rica. Steps have been taken to develop a national
evaluation system by creating a sophisticated school information
system, a framework for monitoring the quality of education
processes (Modelo de Evaluación de la Calidad de la Educación
Costarricense, MECEC)
19. THE EFFECTS OF THE FAMILY IN EDUCATION
The factors that family influence that go beyond of the family incomes
and level of their studies, these relate to the full range of interaction
and needs met by the life of the world in which the children born and
develop.
20. TEACHING PROCESS
Teaching process (TP) is a main way in education, including planning,
implementation, evaluation and revision, classroom assessments or
some other means of receiving feedback on a regular basis.
21. TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (EFL)
People use Spanish to communicate to each other and there is no
need for another language to stablish communication with a person
from Costa Rica. English, even though is taught in schools, is not
needed in the daily life of a person or even for social development

purpose to assess each knowledge of the child and capabilities to
pinpoint what they may need to succeed.

The amount of time students should spend studying depends on how
many classes they are enrolled in, their personal study habits, and

sometimes acting as referee or monitor.

contexts, and cultures in which students learn. Since students may
learn in a wide variety of settings, such as outside of school locations
and outdoor environments, the term is often used as a more accurate

All the teachers have their own style of teaching. And as traditional
teaching styles evolve with the advent of differentiated instruction,
more and more teachers are adjusting their approach depending on
the learning needs of the students.

with independence, comprehension and fluency, and to interact with
the message

Effective writing is a vital component of literacy of the achievement of
the teenagers, and writing is a critical communication tool for students

receiving the thoughts and feelings of others.

RESEARCH
It is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, and predict the control
the observed phenomenon. Research involves inductive and
deductive methods. Inductive methods analyze the observed
phenomenon and identify the general principles, structures, or
process underlying the phenomenon observed.
40. TYPES OF RESEARCH
EXPLORATORY RESEARCH is an examination into a subject in attempt to gain further
insight. Whit an exploratory research is possible that researchers star whit general idea and
use research as a tool to identify issues
DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH designs help provide answers to the questions of who, what,
when, where, and how associated with a particular research problem.
EXPLORATORY RESEARCH is an examination into a subject in attempt to gain further
insight. Whit an exploratory research is possible that researchers star whit general idea
41. APPROACHES OF THE RESEARCH
• Qualitative approach is understanding as human beings, experiences in a
humanistic, interpretive approach. Also there are key distinctions between
method and methodology.
• Quantitative It is a systematic research of observable phenomena via
mathematical and statistical. The qualitative research is that analysis and collect
data about variables.
• Mixed approach refers to an emergent methodology of research that advances
the systematic integration, or mixing quantitative or qualitative data within a
single investigation or sustained program of inquiry.
42. SUBJECTS AND SOURCES OF INFORMATION
• Subject is defined as a living individual about whom an
investigator conducting research obtains data through
intervention or interaction with the individual, or identifiable
private information about whom includes an opinion of subject
on a given topic.
43. POPULATION AND SAMPLE
• Population is known as a well-defined collection of individuals or
objects known to have similar characteristics.
• Sample is the process of selecting people of unit and organizations
from 25 population of interest so that by studying the sample may
fairly generalize the results back to the population from which they
were chosen.
44. TECHNICAL INSTRUMENTS TO COLLECT DATA
• Observation, as the name implies, is a way of collecting data through observing.
Observation data collection method is classified as a participatory study, because the
researcher has to immerse herself in the setting.
• Interviews can be defined as a qualitative research technique which involves
conducting intensive individual interviews with a small number of respondents to
explore their perspectives on a particular idea, program or situation.
• Questionnaires can be classified as both, quantitative and qualitative method
depending on the nature of questions. Specifically, answers obtained through closed
ended questions with multiple choice answer options are analyzed using quantitative
methods.
45. ANALYSIS OF THE OBSERVATION
Level of English that 7th graders possess respect to practice
the observation was performed in which the teacher applied some short questions about the
new topic that was starting, the teacher used very basic phrases about weather conditions.
Techniques that boost the performance of 7th graders
the methodology can be applied the teacher is most of the time work in a book it is for
seventh graders standard students. only one of the students works with his computer. another
material that the teacher uses is videos and audios from her computer.
Educative factors that interfere in the English learning process of 7th graders ,we can
have observed that most of the time they arrived late to the classes and they do not like to
work or practice the language. what they have learn.
46. ANALYSIS OF THE OBSERVATION
Time that the 7th graders dedicate to learn English as a foreign
language. The students do not spend some time studying out the school.
they almost never talk with her family or friends, reading magazines,
newspapers and books, and listening to tv shows, music, etc.
Role of the teacher in the teaching process of English as a foreign
language, the teacher is the main element to students learning process. a
teacher plays an important role after parents in molding the students.
Students are to be handled with affection and courtesy.
47. ANALYSIS OF THE INTERVIEW TO THE TEACHERS
Educative factors that interfere in the English learning process of 7th graders he teacher said,
there are missing basic resources such as chairs, tables or some technology devices or materials.
Level of English that 7th graders possess respect to practice the teacher said that it is really
important to maintain the four skills and the best games or interactive techniques in order to help the
students, listening, writing, speaking, and reading.
Techniques that boost the performance of 7th graders the answer about the question what are
the best techniques to teach English the teacher said that the best are when the student are involved,
enjoyed the class and maintain their total attention. some important techniques are related with
games or
48. ANALYSIS OF THE INTERVIEW TO THE TEACHERS
Time that student of 7th graders dedicate studying English the teacher said that they do
not dedicate studying English in their free time, only when they have an English test they
study a day before the test is applied.
Role of the teacher in the teaching process the answer was; it is nice to teach and really
like the profession, but it is always difficult when the parents do not support their children.
49. ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF THE RESULTS
At Instituto Paraíso, Sixaola, the observation is applied to 25 seventh
graders in the class group 7-3, it is made up with the purpose to know
if the MEP syllabus is well, all the observation was made in three
English classes. Also is observed that in some times inside the
classroom the teacher only speaks Spanish. The main purpose of this
observation was to obtain relevant information in how is the level of
the students.

Level of english that 7th graders possess respect to practice it is noticeable that is general
terms the majority of the students of 7th grade do not have enough knowledge in relation to english
language in the educative system and practice out the school
Techniques that boost the performance of 7th graders it is really important to mention that most
of the students say that they like the teacher techniques, and few say that she should change the
way to teach.
Educative factors that interfere in the english learning process of 7th graders is really relevant
that 52% of the students sometimes are absents of english classes and this way affect a lot if the
learning process
59. CONCLUSIONS
Time that the 7th graders dedicate to learning english as a foreign language
for this point, it was determined that with respect the opinion of the participants on
the issue of the time that the spend studying english is considering very low only
8% of them say that they spend a lot of time studying or practicing the language.
Role of the teacher in the teaching process of english as a foreign language
in 7th graders it is determined that there is a positive perception on the part of the
observation to teacher regarding the affection and courtesy. the teacher has to
maintain a good set of manners and try to be a role model. during the observation
most of the time a lot of students do not like to speak English.

61. RECOMMENDATIONS
Level of English that 7th graders possess respect to practice sociality, funny and
interactive activities students are may to stablish the English practice and feel comfortable
and they lost fear and win interesting by the language.
Techniques that boost the performance of 7th graders must be checking her strategies
and techniques and doing innovate that boost reading and speaking skills, consequently
generating a high level.
Educative factors that interfere in the English learning process of 7th graders
it is recommended to make strategies and a plan that that allow the improvement of the
issues detected for example the lack of chairs, tables and technology.
62. RECOMMENDATIONS
Time that the 7th graders dedicate to learn English as a foreign
language t is recommended that the teacher would have and adequate
plan prepare by her where the priors to the class that integrate activities that
strength the time class, because the lack of time if affecting too much the
learning process.
Role of the teacher in the teaching process of English as a foreign
language in 7th graders it is recommended that teacher should motivate
her students to maintain speaking English in the whole time in classes. the
teacher must forbid to speak Spanish.

• This proposal is going to be based on the use of the application
and its webpage to improve listening and speaking
comprehension in the students.

Currently the technology is very important and the internet is a great tool when it
comes to teaching and learning, it should be used more when learning a language.
THE TRAINING
Technology is everywhere entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects
how students live, work, play, and most importantly learn. Listening exercises would
offer successful practice to get the attention of the teenagers.
68. PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT
• These proposal beings with the listening and speaking tasks, they will be selected as
all those exercises, assignments and activities that improve and develop listening
and speaking comprehension.
• The creation of a web page in an application from Google is included as part of the
educational proposal. The proposal project works in the classroom with 25
computers of the school.
• Listening and speaking exercises would offer successful practice to get the attention
of the teenagers. For that reason, students are taken to the lab where they access to
the Google classroom application.

STRENGTHS
• The creation of this project is very useful for both teachers and students as it
facilities the interaction between them, also the staff of teachers of English are
really positive and cooperative, also students are willing to learn and they seem
to be really motivated

• The use of technology in general terms need a little control to be considered as a
strategy or technique to learn English Language

OPPORTUNITIES
• It enables students to gather detailed information that might otherwise be difficult
to find. Students can increase their English knowledge in a pleasant way, fun,
and equal conditions that will allow them to grow. Also, when real-time data is
used, students see the relationship between their studies and the real world.
THREATS
• Low incomes, students quit school to work to support their families. Use of drugs,
violence in their houses, and vandalism.
71. IMPACTS OF THE PROPOSAL
• This proposal will bring positive change to this institution since the
students are exposed to a better and real context education.
• Using technology in the classroom increases student autonomy, the
internet use also frequently resulted unexpectedly in a better
student relation.
• Students are engaging with technology constantly outside of the
classroom. Kids like to be interactive, and learning through
technology has now become a part of their lifestyle

• Development of oral and speaking competency using an application from
Internet.
• Based on the observation of 7th graders, the researcher evaluates the
performance of the teacher in the English as a Foreign Language.
• Factors that are affecting the English level of the students, identify the
real potential tools and a great leaning environment in order to help the
students.
• Development of motivation of the students to learning English using
technology to improve the teaching process.
