THEUSEOFTYPEKITFONTSININDESIGNLAYOUT
• Typekit fonts are now Adobe Fonts
• Beginning in 2020 Adobe allows Creative Cloud account to access and download over
2,750 fonts
• New feature automatically downloads and installs the requested font.
A preference activates this option
• Beginning in January 2023 PostScript T1 fonts will no longer be supported by Adobe
software. All fonts used in an InDesign document layout should be OpenType fonts
• This impacts old publication files that will need to be updated to OpenType fonts

THE USE OF TYPEKIT FONTS IN INDESIGN LAYOUT
The complete library of fonts is included with:
• a monthly or annual Creative Cloud All Apps
subscription
• any single-application Creative Cloud
subscription
• The only thing a user needs to install is the
Creative Cloud desktop app
• The app will manage all the fonts activated from
Adobe Fonts

ESSENTIAL SHORTCUTS FOR INDESIGN USER
Hundreds of InDesign Shortcuts fall into two categories:
• Operational keyboard shortcuts that rely on modifier keys for functions such as:
• Navigating a page, spread or a document
• Placing multiple graphics in layout
• Opening dialog boxes
• Workflow methods followed by a designer to significantly shorten the time it takes to produce
and edit a publication and be assured of high-quality final output
• Styles: Paragraph, Character, Object, Table and Cell
• Variables for periodicals such as reports, newsletters or proposals
• Templates and Master Pages for document and page layouts
• InDesign Preferences with extensive variations for differing workflows

Examples of Operational Keyboard Shortcuts
(below are examples only, there are dozens of combinations)
• Navigating page or spread of a document
CTRL+Spacebar Zooming
Spacebar or ALT (while typing)
Panning

• Placing multiple graphics in layout
CTRL+Shift+Drag:
while dragging release the modifier keys and
tap on keyboard arrow keys for controlling
the column and row count and/or space
between the graphic frames
ALT+Drag:
Duplicate objects

• Opening dialog boxes such as:
Text Frame Options: CTRL+B
Placing new content: CTRL+D

THE LATEST TIPS FOR MAKING HIGH QUALITY EPUBS
What makes a high quality ePUB?
• It begins with use of Paragraph Styles
• Styles should control all visual text formatting
• Styles provide Export Tagging options that allow to control
logical structure of the code for ePubs
To ensure good quality code follow these guidelines:
• Avoid style overrides
• Work with Style Override Highlighter
• Set images to at least 150 ppi
• Use Articles Panel to control the text flow

WORKING WITH PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR
• InDesign layout incorporates images by linking to external files managed
in Links panel
• Links Panel allows direct access to Photoshop and Illustrator for
editing
• The best working filetypes are .psd and .ai
• Layers created in Photoshop can be used in InDesign to reveal
different versions of an image
• A path drawn in Illustrator can be copied and pasted into InDesign
document and edited as an InDesign path
• For consistent color, all images should be using RGB color mode and
color settings should be consistent in all apps
• InDesign Transparency Blend Space should be set to RGB Color
