Has to / doesn’t have to for
        obligations
        Unit 4: Lesson 4
        I’d like to be …
Have to (objective obligation)

 An obligation is a requirement to take some course of
  action, whether legal or moral.

 We can use have to + infinitive to express obligation
  (something you have to do).

 We often use ”have to” to say that something is obligatory

                                          For example
Use of Have to

 In general, have to expresses impersonal obligation. The
subject of have to is obliged or forced to act by a separate,
external power (for example, the Law or school rules).
Have to is objective.

                                             For example
Structure of “Have to”, the 3rd person
(question)

Auxiliary verb + subject + have to + verb (infinitive) ?
Does + Dorj + have to + work on Sunday ?
   Does + a herder + have to + wear uniform ?
   Does + a chef + have to + travel a lot ?

                                      Positive answer

                                      Negative answer
Structure of “Have to”, the 3rd person
(positive)

Dorj + has to + do the homework.
A herder + has to + work hard.
A pilot + has to + wear uniform.

                                       Go back to question
Structure of “Have to”, the 3rd person
(negative)

Subject + auxiliary verb + have to + verb (infinitive)
Dorj + doesn’t + have to + work on Sunday.
 A herder + doesn’t + have to + wear uniform
 A chef + doesn’t + have to + travel a lot

                                        Go back to question
For example:

 Children have to go to school.
 John has to wear a tie at work.
 Does doctor has to wear a tie at work?
