5 Things You Should Look For While Choosing Summer Training
1. 5 Things You Should Look For While
Choosing Summer Training
Summer Training is one of the most important parts of the engineering curriculum.
It can prove to be a decisive factor in defining the career path of an Engineering
student. Having said that , it becomes utmost important for the student to find a
good opportunity to do summer training. Here are some important do’s and
don’ts:
1. Say no to your neighbourhood training institute – Summer training is meant
to give you exposure to industry. The equipment, software, tools and practices.
Any local training shop will never be able to provide that. Find a real company to
get trained . But considering the amount of engineering graduates passing each
year, it is almost impossible for everybody to get that opportunity. The closest you
could get to that is to find a course offered by big companies where students pay a
reasonable fees to get trained. This gets you real life exposure to equipment and
tools with additional bonus of a certificate.
2. Choose a domain that matches your education – In a free world one is open
to work in any field as long as the profession is legal. But summer training is a part
of your education. You professional life comes later. So try to do your training in a
field closely related your engineering branch. Moreover look for some latest
technologies like ICT, Cloud Computing , 4G to learn.
2. 3. People are telecommuting, why not e-learn – In many companies that you
may work in future, employees are allowed or even encouraged for working
remotely. With advent of high speed internet, cloud computing its almost possible
to everything from a distance. So if you are not able to find some training program
in your city , try to find the best program on e-learning mode. But remember, the
program needs to have some practical portion as well. Click here for an example
of such a program.
4. Cost of the program – It is a very difficult to comment on the correct price that
one should pay for a summer training program but we will try to base the price
on the main features of the program. These are practical exposure, company name,
certification at the end of training, whether training is on latest technologies. If a 6
week training program has all these feature than its well worth around Rs 10,000.
A training program with all these features and price less than that is definitely a
bonus. If any of these features is missing than it’s not worth joining the program. If
you still do join, there is no way it’s worth more than just a couple of thousand
bucks.
5. Missing the training – There might be few universities where the training is
optional. For a student, it is still a good idea to get trained. When you pass out as a
fresher, your CV is most boring thing for an employers. Good trainings and
projects tend to provide a necessary decoration to you resume. The employers
knows you have some touch with the industry if not all. This could prove to be
your job clinching factor.
