2. Quickly switch between apps
Drag your hand sideways
using 4 or 5 fingers, to
the left or right edge of
screen.
TIP: Enable in Settings:
Tap Settings>General>Multitasking
Gestures, and make sure this feature
is enabled.
3. Switch between
apps with App
Switch
Press Home button twice
quickly to view all open
apps. From here you can
switch between apps, and
close any app by swiping
upward.
Notice that most recent
contacts appear above. Tap
a contact's icon to
communicate via imessage,
Facetime, or phone.

4. Spotlight search:
touch your index finger on
the wallpaper and drag
downward to reveal a search
box. Type search terms to
search your entire iPad.
Start typing and it begins
searching for Apps, emails,
contacts, appointments,
music & more.

downward to
open spotlight
search.
5. Get back to the
top of page
quickly, without
scrolling.
Tap the top of page with
your finger and instantly you
will be at the top of the
page. Hint: To do this in
Safari, touch your finger
above the web address box.
In Safari, tap once to reveal
address box, then tap again
to rapidly go to the top of
the page.
6. Adjust Display &
Brightness
Go to Settings>Display &
Brightness to adjust
brightness, text size, and to
select or de-select Bold Text.
Text size can be adjusted
more in Accessibility settings
7. Invert colors on your iPad and access others
settings to customize your iPad user
experience.
Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Invert colors and toggle on to invert colors. Explore additional
accessibility settings on this page available for enlarging & bolding text, increasing contrast, voiceover
features & more.
8. Hide photos.
Have photos on your iPad
you would like to hide?
Touch photo with your index
finger and hold until the
hide/copy option appears.
9. Straighten out a
crooked photo
Open the photos app, select
photo to straighten, tap edit
in upper right corner, then
select the crop function. A
dial will appear that can be
used to straighten the photo.

Bypass the lockscreen to use the camera:

Display iPad control center: Swipe upward from bottom

turn on iCloud Photo Library.

15. Extend battery life per charge
Turn Bluetooth off, unless you are using it.
Reducing screen brightness also conserve Brightness conserves battery
life. Go to Settings>Display &, and select screen brightness on a slider.
Consider setting screen lock to just 2 minutes. Go to
Settings>General>Auto-lock

16. Discover battery guzzling apps
Go Settings>General>Usage>Battery Usage.
What this really tells you is how you spend most of your time on the iPad.
Battery usage information
available for past 24 hours
and past 7 days.
17. Charge iPad faster in Airplane Mode
Select Airplane mode from quick access center
(swipe upward from bottom of iPad to access,
or go to Settings, and in the top left hand
column, toggle “airplane mode” to on.
Turn on Airplane mode in settings.
18. Keyboard tips & shortcuts
Using the virtual keyboard, hit the space bar twice to insert a period and start the next sentence.
Enable Caps lock, quickly tap the shift key twice.
Press and hold the exclamation point key to choose an apostrophe
When typing a web address into the address bar, press and hold the “.” To reveal a shortcut for the domain, i.e; .com,
.edu, .org,

Tap the microphone key to dictate instead of typing.
19. Adding a
keyboard
Add keyboard. So you can insert emoji
icons, such as 😜 to add life to your
messages,
go to Settings>General>Keyboards>
and tap “Add new Keyboard” and you
will see the numerous keyboards
available to accommodate foreign
languages, and emoji, of course. Now
emoji’s are diverse with iOS 8.3. Select
and hold. See more choices.

21. Splitting the
virtual keyboard
Split the iPad’s onscreen
Keyboard to provide more
onscreen space. Simply take
both index fingers and push
each half of the keyboard to
the edges of the iPad screen.
Splitting keyboard is helpful
is you type with your
thumbs.
22. iPad cut & paste text
iPad cut and paste shortcut: double tap on a word to select it. To select an entire paragraph, tap
four times.
23. Quickly get a
definition for a
word.
Tap and hold to select a
word with your finger tip,
then select Define to get a
definition of that word.
24. Manage your
email
Get notified when you
receive a reply to an
important email. In Mail app,
go to the email, tap the flag
icon above the message.
Select Notify me… You will
receive notifications when
anyone replies to that email
thread.
25. Delete, Archive,
Flag Messages
In the Mail app, swipe from
right to left to reveal options
to trash (or archive), flag, or
more (tap more to reveal all
options).

redo

Tap trash can to delete a message
28. Set the timer in
the Clock app to
play music for a
set period of time.
Open clock app, tap timer,
tap the music icon, then
select “stop playing.” Fall
asleep to the music.

not disturb”
Silence all calls and alerts
when iPad is locked.

“hours so you can sleep
peacefully. Scheduled
alarms will still ring.

30. Quickly mute your iPad: press and hold down
the volume (decrease) button for about two
seconds.

31. Log into
icloud.com
Log into your iCloud account
from any PC connected to
the Internet. Enter your
Apple ID and Password. Your
device’s location will be
shown on a map. You can
also play a sound to help you
find your iPad.
Select find my iPad. Enable in
Settings
32. View recent
contacts in app.
Engage app switcher by
rapidly double pressing the
home button. The contacts
you communicate with most
frequently will appear above
the apps that are currently
open.
33. Need to make a
call from your
iPad?
Now you can make free calls
though Facebook’s
Messenger app using WiFi
(or data plan.)
35. Improve the
sound of your
music
Set your iPad’s EQ to
improve the sound quality of
the music you play on your
iPad. Go
Settings>Music>EQ, then
select the style of music you
listen to most often.
Choose an EQ setting
that matches the kind
of music you listen to.
36. Name that tune,
Siri
With iOS 8, you can now ask
SIRI, “What is that playing?”
(powered by the Shazam
app.) You can also ask SIRI to
buy songs for you from the
App store.

• Schedule appointment
• Schedule a reminder
• Set an alarm
Siri is available on iPad
3rd Generation & up.
Enable SIRI hands free*.
Then you can say, “Hey SIRI” for
assistance. Go to
Settings>General>SIRI>Allow “Hey
SIRI”
Hands free is new to iOS 8.
Otherwise, press and hold the
Home button to engage Siri.
*iPad must be connected to a
power source.
38. Import mp3s
You can import music not purchased from iTunes into your iTunes your library.
To enjoy downloaded songs from Freegal into iTunes, open iTunes, select “Add File to Library”
from the file menu. Select the mp3 file to add to your iTunes library.

39. Family Sharing
Share purchases across
multiple devices with Family
sharing. To enable, Go to
Settings>iCloud>Set up
Family Sharing to get started.
40. Tip: Try using Siri
for everyday tasks,
such as scheduling
reminders,
appointments, or
sending a text.
Siri can help you learn to get
more from your iPad. Here
are some examples.

with options for saving and

• Bookmark webpage
• Add to reading list & make
available offline
• Print
Tap the Share button to reveal
sharing options, including “App
Extensions” –the ability to share
with popular apps.
