software. In 2009, the company’s total revenue was US$786 million, an increase of 8%.
IBM’s third largest software lab in the world is located here. The Toronto Lab employs 2,500 people and develops leading
products for worldwide distribution. It is so successful that it has become a model for IBM’s other research locations
around the world.
sanofi pasteur announced a $100 million investment to build a new research and development facility in Toronto. With
$13.9 million in support from the Government of Ontario’s Biopharmaceutical Investment Program, the planned state-of-
the-art facility will house new, specialized R&D equipment and support high-value jobs.
Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) is Xerox’ strategic materials research centre, enabling the flow of leading-edge
document materials in both the paper and digital world, from research concepts to document solutions. Based in
Mississauga, the Centre employs over 120 scientists and engineers, and has generated over 1,000 US patents over
35 years, adding 40-60 US patents/year to this portfolio.
Toyota Manufacturing Canada opened a new assembly plant in southern Ontario, the first new automotive investment
in Canada in 20 years.
