2. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
My magazine uses the conventions of real magazines throughout
the layout in terms of colours font and where everything is situated
on the page right through to the content within the cover lines and
article. To do this I carried out research on various music magazines
such as:
Doing this I gathered what genre and style of magazine I wanted to create. I then
decided to research upon the urban magazine genre and focused on the
magazines VIBE and Billboard.

5. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The written content within my
Main image magazine article follows the
codes and conventions of an
Quote urban magazine due to the
topic being “up close and
Headline personal” it would interest
readers to look into the life of
Columns their favourite artist and they
would be able to aspire to
that.
Introduction/
Synopsis
6. Title
My magazine differs to conventions of the
urban magazine due to it having a one letter
title. The masthead does not cover the top of
the page horizontally. However the font used
for my masthead was Gills sans ultra bold to
make the text bold and thick which does
follow the codes and conventions of a normal
magazine targeting.
7. 2.How does your media product represent
particular social groups
My magazine represents the urban adolescent by the typical ethnicity of
being black and dressing quite “street” also the artists that are featured on
my front cover for example Nicki Minaj and Mia both are rappers / singers
and are “coloured”.
The audience I aimed my magazine at was 15- 18 year olds. In terms of
clothing I deliberately chose people that dress very urban and would be
considered to have “swag” and did research upon what's in fashion at this
moment in time and I tried to portray what my audience would aspire to
wear and be like. Also brands associated with music (YMCMB Jumper on the
front cover).

8. 3.What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product
and why?
The media institution I would like to publish my magazine would be
IPC because it is a well established institution over 60 iconic media
brands with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women
and 42% of UK men which is 26 million users per month and would
do a lot of justice for my brand of magazine.
They also publish NME which is the longest published and most
respected music weekly in the world. Across the magazine,
nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the brand's live events and
awards, NME reaches over one million music fans every week
therefore their publishing have a well known music magazine and
have experience within the music industry.
