CC Japan is a non-profit organization that started as a university project and is now independent with a board of directors. They have grown their volunteer base to include more professionals. They have had achievements in working with art museums to allow photos of exhibits to be shared under CC licenses and hosting live music events that use CC-licensed works. They also run a science commons translation project. Challenges include finding more funding, managing human resources, and improving corporate governance structures. Opportunities exist in open government licensing and providing more case studies and measurements.
