Toby Jackson is proposing a documentary project about promoting tourism in Yorkshire. He will research, plan, film and edit a documentary focusing on the rural and countryside areas of Yorkshire to highlight undiscovered places for tourism. Toby has experience creating various media projects in college and will apply the research, planning, production and evaluation skills he has developed. He will conduct research on documentaries, tourism in Yorkshire and audience needs. Toby will create a script, storyboard and filming plan for production. During production, he will film footage, record a voiceover and edit the documentary. Toby will maintain a production diary and conduct evaluations to improve his work. Upon completion, he will produce an overall evaluation of the project.

Project proposal title and date:
Yorkshire Tourism Documentary. 4th March 2022
Main area of activity:
I will mostly work in the film sector, doing a documentary that I will research, plan, film and edit.
Rationale:
Throughout the last 2 years at college, I have made a music video, animated game, magazine,
with a trailer and tv advert, a fanzine, and a short magazine. I have also planned, researched, and
evaluated for all of these, which means I have lots of experience working with different software's
including Photoshop and PremierePro for my work. I will use all my skills for this video project
because I did it for my FMP last year. I can put the skills and knowledge of researching and
planning to help create the idea of my project for pre-production, I can put my knowledge of
cameras, software's towards the production of this project, and use my skills of evaluating to
create an ongoing diary for this project and an overall evaluation summary in post-production. A
documentary is the best format for this because it is non-fiction, which means it will be informative
with a purpose to promote tourism.
Project Concept:
My project concept is an expository documentary about Yorkshire, for the purpose of promoting
tourism and advertising all the areas for people to enjoy. I will cover the countryside and rural
areas due to them being more undiscovered for tourism unlike places like York or other busy
areas, this is like a USP for my documentary. I will aim to add more personality to this project by
basing it off my voice over and include how I feel about it, to make the audience more interested. I
will conduct a lot of research for this project including contextual research, about different
influences and my strengths and limitations at the beginning of the product, then move onto
research, this will include looking at existing products including documentaries, videos, and also
places in the area I can film and what I can include and how I want my product to be, and also
include audience research and production/ topic research, and then plan my work, including a
script, storyboard, camera shot plan, etc, and also do an experiment too so I can get used to my
work, as I haven’t done a video project in a while.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
This project will be evaluated regularly by feedback and improving my work, especially after I finish
each section. Throughout the project, I will do an ongoing evaluation called a production diary,
after each week, I will write about what I have done, why I did it, what I changed, what I will do next
and include images. When I get into production, I will evaluate my work every day, and do a
weekly video evaluation where I will go over what I have done by recording my screen and making
a voice over and uploading it onto my production diary. After my production is finished, I will make
an overall summary evaluation and write about everything I have done and sum up the entire
project. This means it will help me progress my work and help me realise what I need to do to
improve, what I missed and plan out what I need to do next week. I will also use peer feedback
from tutors to see what I need to do to get a better grade, we hand in our work on Microsoft Teams
assignments to receive additional feedback. I will also get audience and participant feedback from
surveys on my audience research, and anybody I am filming with or around.
