Across Brazil, millions are being invested in metro projects
to improve, expand and modernise the urban transport
system. This session will feature a spotlight on the finance
models used for the upgrades planned and underway to
transform the Brazil’s metro transport system.

infrastructure to meet growing travel demand in
São Paulo
	 •	Update: The São Paulo Monorail system -
Expresso Tiradentes
	 Estimated to cost R$1.6bn, the Expresso
Tiradentes is expected to start operations in
2014. The monorail system will reduce travel time
between the two destinations from two hours to
50 minutes, benefiting 500,000 passengers a day.

	 The Metro network currently serves half a million
travellers each day and the project expansion
will extend the 42km long metro network
towards the west of Rio de Janeiro. Scheduled

citywide transport investment.

Porto Alegre

the Brazil’s first Aeromovel system will connect

start in the second half of 2013 and demand is
projected at 7,700 passengers per day.
