2. Where did it begin? Horror films first really came into the scene around the late 1890’s with the most prolific one being “The House of the Devil”. This really set the scene for horror films as they became extremely popular and many followed after.

5. Why do we like horror films? The biggest reason is for entertainment obviously but its slightly deeper than that. The thought of being scared with no consequences somewhat excites people and drives them forward to watching films of this genre that’s why they are so popular. Also the sheer thought of us and an audience trying to anticipate what conventions the film maker will use to scare us is very enticing.

6. Recent adaptation: The whole point of horror films are to scare people, but sometimes the novelty does wear off and people look for other genres. Spotting the niche in the market there is now an increase of ‘spoof’ films. These film take a series of different horror films and make their own comedic take on the events changing the film into a spoof. Or completely new events which are normally conventions in horror movies replayed in a humorous fashion which not only appeals to horror movie enthusiasts due to the relation but people who love comedy too. Conclusion: Horror films have always been extremely popular for years (originated in 1896) and they will continue to attract people, but there is not only one side to horror films they can adapt and take on a ‘spoof’ form which has been seen in more recent years. In my opinion they will become more popular in upcoming years as it will be a test for film makers to keep scaring people with different techniques and conventions.
