“We are deeply aware that the future of the energy sector will depend
on Italy’s huge opportunity to act as one of the world players in the
revolution generated by clean energies. This gives us strength and
hope. It is therefore essential for us to participate in Solarexpo – The
Innovation Cloud 2014: an important role for the future of our country
is at stake and we have to inspire those who unfortunately have not
yet recognised this fact”.

“This year, Solarexpo had the difficult task of reviving optimism and it
confirmed the dynamic character of previous editions, reflecting the
state of health of photovoltaics in Italy. Although we all face a particularly uncertain regulatory framework, PV is still one of the more
competitive and dynamic market in Europe. For these reasons, Yingli
has decided to attend Solarexpo, proposing new solutions for selfconsumption and energy efficiency that stand for the energy future
of the country “.

2. SOLAREXPO 2014:
A WEALTH OF OPPORTUNITIES
The Italian PV market
• in the exclusive world’s “GW-scale club”, with China, Japan,
Germany and USA; yet forecasted for a stable growth path of 1 to
2 GW/year till 2020 (or more, depending on further price reduction
and on the rate of penetration of storage systems)
• incentives are still available in form of very attractive tax rebates:
50% in 2014, 40% in 2015, afterwards stabilised at 36%. A vibrating
laboratory for the entire PV industry chain for tuning new business
models in the post-FiT era
• a quick extension from South to North Italy of the grid parity
achievement in the residential segment, as well as in the commercial
and industrial ones, starting from the highest self-consumption rates
• targeting also a short-term market parity achievement (100- e/
MWh) by IPPs for utility-scale generation in the Country’s highestradiation locations (Sicily)
• an enormous market (18 GW capacity, 0.5+ Mio plants) exploitable
by specialists of O&M, with a particular emphasis on advanced
services of “O&M&performance” optimization
• an ideal environment (starting from the 30+ Mio smart meters in
operation since many years) for innovation leaders for developing
micro-grids & smart grids concepts and distributed- & gridscale storage systems
The Italian CSP market
• poised for a full take-off: backed by the world’s highest FiT
scheme (up to 36 ec/kWh, plus the electricity sale)
• mandatory storage for larger plants to enable full power
dispatchability: an asset for trading green electricity in a
changing electricity market
• leading companies report a first 250+ MW project pipeline
in high-radiation locations of southern Italy (Sardinia, Sicily); a
600 MW cumulative capacity is projected by 2017, with an
ample FiT cap set at 2.5 Mio sqm of total collectors area
The Italian Solar Thermal market
• confirmed as the second largest market in Europe: a total
collector area of 330.000 sqm installed in 2012
• two alternative incentive systems in place:
1. 65% tax rebate recoverable over 10 years (confirmed for 2014,
afterwards stabilised at 50% till 2016)
2. Capital grant scheme paid by instalments (domestic and medium scale plants: 170 e/sqm/year for 2 years; large-scale plants:
55 e/sqm/year for 5 years)
• compulsory installation of renewable energy solutions on any
new buildings - in line with the EU Directive on energy performance
of buildings - to satisfy a rate of domestic hot water consumption
constantly increasing till 2020
