need to be close to school or work ?
planning on living with a roommate?
have you figured out your finances?
Research public transit options nearby to find the most cost-efficient and timely ways of getting to
and from your new place.
Trying to cut costs? The average household spends 18 cents
of every dollar on transportation, and 94% of this goes to buying,
maintaining, and operating cars, the largest expenditure after housing.
Taking the train or bus could be a great way to reduce your carbon
footprint while saving time and money. (Get the facts)

Coordinate ahead of time to determine which items you’ll be bringing and which you’ll need to
purchase. There are many items you may be able to get second-hand from friends and family looking
to donate old furniture or other household items.
Consider checking out thrift stores or sites like Craigslist for deals on used items that are typically
more expensive like bed frames, couches, or dining room sets.
Get an accurate picture of your overall monthly bills and financial responsibilities by using a
budget calculator. In addition to your monthly rent, most apartments will require you to set up utility
services. Trash and water are typically included, but you will likely be responsible for gas and electric.
Make sure to discuss each of your utility services with your property staff so that you know exactly what
to set up and when to pay.
Remember, you’ll also be responsible for setting up additional services like cable and internet. With
these utilities, as well as with gas and electric, calling ahead and setting up appointments for move-in
day will help you avoid eating take-out by candlelight and taking cold showers during the first week in
your new home!

A great way to save money and stay green when moving is to utilize recycled cardboard boxes.
Find a local business and ask if you can take some of their used boxes off their hands. Usually grocery
stores or restaurants will be your best bet since they receive weekly deliveries of goods that are packed
in cardboard that are likely to be tossed out.

4tip what moves you?
Recycling one ton of cardboard saves more than 9 cubic yards
of landfill space. When you’re finished with your boxes, take them to
a nearby recycling center or offer them to a fellow mover! (Get the facts)
Another stress free method is to utilize a green moving solutions
company such as RePax. They’re eco-friendly containers are easy to
use and a great alternative to cardboard.
Save time and money by using BozzutoConnect, our complimentary service that makes the move
to your new apartment home easier than ever by providing you with an instant comparison of the
major service providers in your area!

use a moving checklist ?
going green is easier and cheaper than ever.
take advantage of movers, but
do your due diligence.
There are plenty of DIY moving checklists available online that you can use to prepare yourself
for a move weeks, even months, before you move in. Having a plan and sticking to it eliminates the
majority of moving headaches, and you will be amazed at how much stress you can save yourself
by keeping organized. BozzutoConnect, our complimentary service that Instantly compare deals from
the telecommunication and electricity providers in your area, has a free moving checklist to help get
you started!
Making an eco-friendly move is easier than you might think. The first step is committing yourself
using recycled cardboard instead of buying new boxes. A great resource for finding cheap and
reliable used boxes is UsedCardboardBoxes.com, a company who rescues cardboard on the way to
the dump and repurposes it to be used again. As a plus, they offer free shipping and 1-2 day delivery.
If you’re in the market for something a bit sturdier, consider RePax. Their zero-waste pack and
move boxes are converted from post-consumer and industrial trash, and they offer a cheaper, more
environmentally-friendly alternative to single-use, disposable packing options.
Hiring movers will keep decrease the physical burden of moving, but trusting others to care for your
prized possessions can be frightening. Here are a few tips for choosing a professional mover:

• Read customer feedback and reviews on moving companies in your area on sites like Yelp and
the Better Business Bureau.
• Keep in mind that estimates are exactly that - an approximate number for the cost of your move.
It’s best to plan that the move will cost more, not less, than the original estimate.
• Bozzuto is enrolled with Uncle Bob’s self storage to provide our clients with exclusive discounts
on monthly storage fees and special services. You can view our special discounts, including a
FREE truck rental, here. If you choose Uncle Bob’s, you may activate your exclusive Bozzuto

the best resources available to help you make the most
comfortable move possible.

Did you know that peak moving season for the Department of Defense and the U.S. Coast Guard runs
from May through August? Or that more than 225,000 shipments of household goods are made during
this time each year?
As soon as you receive confirmation that you will be making a move, especially if it falls during peak
moving season, contact either your local installation Transportation Office or the Defense Personal
Property System via www.Move.mil to ensure that you’ll be able to lock in your ideal shipping and
receiving dates.
Your one-stop shop for installation and state resources is MilitaryInstallations. Browse their
site to gain insight into transporting pets, services for special needs families, check-in procedures,
motor vehicle requirements, school information, and much more related to the area to which you
will be moving.
While we would love you to join us in one of our Bozzuto communities, we understand that we can’t
be a perfect fit for everyone. A great resource for servicemembers and their families is the
Automated Housing Referral Network. They specialize in finding available housing specifically for
the military. You can explore their site at AHRN.

with Pets
Many of our Bozzuto communities welcome your furry
companions with open arms. Nothing makes an apartment
quite like your snuggly feline or tail-wagging pup. Even
so, we know that uprooting a pet for a move across town,
to a new city, or all the way across state lines can be a
traumatizing experience that must be handled with care.
Let us offer a few tips for keeping all four paws intact!

get the ball rolling early!
make a list!
To help ease the stress on both you and your pet, here are a few pieces of advice to prepare for your
move in advance:
Make sure to use a check-list of pet essentials to keep you organized and to ensure that you’re not
forgetting anything for the big day! Here’s a start:
BACK BACK TO SELECTION
• Get referrals for a vet before your move; don’t wait until you get to a new town or community
to find a vet if possible. Utilize online resources such as Yelp to get feedback on the best
vets in your new neighborhood.
• Find out if your new town requires pet licenses.
• If driving a long distance to your new town, research pet-friendly hotels along the way
in advance.
• Know the pet emergency care facilities and vets in your new town before going. This way, you
prepared if anything happens during your move.
• Check with your new building’s manager about any pet-specific moving requirements.
• Make sure that you update your pet’s identification tags with your new information BEFORE
you move. Accidents happen, and a stressed out pet who decides to take a stroll through the
new neighborhood when you’re moving boxes will have a much easier time being returned.
• Veterinary and Immunization records.
• Bedding, toys, and other items your pet will associate with home.
• An ample supply of your pet’s usual food. Making a move is hard enough as it is, so avoid
changing your pet’s diet at all costs.
• A spare leash just in case your usual leash disappears during the move.
• A crate or safe enclosure for long distance traveling.

Planning a move in your golden years brings a whole
new batch of considerations and concerns that aren’t as
important when we’re in our younger years. The logistics

(mostly) headache-free.

plan your service needs
evaluate your financial options
make your move with confidence and trust
Many professional moving companies specialize in assisting seniors with their move by offering
additional services beyond simply transporting goods to your new home.
According to the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) the five most popular
services offered by senior moving specialists are:
On average, contracting with a senior moving organization will cost between $40-$60 an hour. Moving
to a one-bedroom unit averages less than $2,500, compared to the average cost of moving to a two-
bedroom, which can run as high as $4,000.
The NASMM was created to “facilitate the physical and emotional aspects of relocation for older adults
and to enhance the professional competence of its members.” Visit NASMM to become informed about
businesses and services for older adults in your area.
Ideally, your moving company will understand the special considerations that should be given to
older adults when transitioning to a new home. When choosing a company, ensure they are ready
to manage all aspects of the process and facilitate a smooth move. NASMM suggests asking the
following questions when contacting a moving company who specializes in senior moving: 1. How long
have you been providing senior move management services? 2. Have you participated in any formal
training programs? 3. Can you provide references?
