During the research, planning, construction, and evaluation stages of creating a thriller film trailer, Thasmin Siddique used various media technologies. In the research stage, she used the internet, Google, and YouTube to research the thriller genre and identify popular trailer features. For planning, she created a Weebly blog to upload work and track progress. Microsoft Word and Excel were used to create questionnaires, scripts, and charts. Canon DSLR and tripod were used to film footage, and Adobe Premiere was used to edit the trailer. Adobe Photoshop edited images. Audience feedback was gathered through a focus group recorded on YouTube and evaluated in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation converted to SlideShare and uploaded

How did you use media technologies in research&planning, construction and evaluation stages?
1. How did you use media
technologies in research &
planning, constructions and
evaluation stages?
Thasmin Siddique
2. Research
During my research I used a variety of media technologies to
help me research what was the most popular genre within
films for teenagers-early adults.
I used the internet to help me conduct my research and to see
what are the codes and convention of the genre I picked
(thriller). I also used google to help me create a mood board
of the ideas generated for the trailer, this allowed me to
access images and to access information about thriller.
I used YouTube to look at other trailers to help identify what
was popular features used and how they made the trailer
effective and fit the codes and conventions of the genre.
By doing this it allowed me to gain a wider knowledge of what
to contain within my trailer to make it effective.
3. Research and planning
During my planning I created a blog on Weebly,
by doing this it made it easier to upload all my
work and track my progress throughout.
Weebly was a useful blog as it allowed me to
upload images, documents and videos straight
from YouTube .
4. Research and planning
Throughout my planning I used Microsoft word a
lot, I used it to help me create my questionnaire for
the target audience and to create my scripts for the
trailer. I also used it to help me annotate the film
posters and magazine covers. By doing this all on
Microsoft word it made it easier to upload straight
onto my blog.
I also used Microsoft excel to create my pie charts
of the results from my questionnaire, making it
easier to read from.
5. Construction
To construct my thriller trailer I used Canon
DSLR to record my trailer, alongside this to help
keep the camera steady I also used a tripod. I
then transferred the footages from the SD card
onto the computer to allow me to access the
videos on Adobe premier and pick the footages I
wanted onto the timeline. I also used
Freesound.org to gain access to sound effects I
needed to add to my footages.
6. Constructions
To edit my trailer and put the footages together
with the sound and edits I used Adobe premiere. I
had to pick the footages I wanted onto the time and
shorten the length of the videos to the length I
wanted. By having a timeline it made it easier to
upload the soundtracks in the correct places as well
as the intertitles.
To edit my images for my magazine cover and film
poster I used Adobe Photoshop. This allowed me to
access tools to make my images look professional
7. Evaluation
For audience feedback I presented my trailer to a
target audience and asked them questions
regarding my trailer, for example what went well
and what went bad and how I could improve.
I then recorded a focus group for my evaluation and
used YouTube to upload the videos to allow me to
post it within my blog
For my evaluation I used Microsoft PowerPoint to
answer the questions, however to allow me to
upload it onto my blog I had to convert it to slide
share.
