This document presents a learner systems module on traffic signs aimed at both drivers and pedestrians. It aims to help end pedestrian crosswalk accidents and fatalities through increasing awareness of traffic signs and safety. The module explains driver responsibility, distractions, the importance of public safety, and automated transportation systems. It contains information on traffic signs and quizzes participants to test their knowledge. DRIVER RESPONSIBILITY
• You must care about the safety of others on the road. Everyone
is responsible for avoiding collisions. Think safety first. Be aware
of your surroundings — pay attention. Do not depend on other
drivers.
• You have to drive safely, obey the traffic laws, and
respect the rights of other drivers. Follow the 3- to 4-second rule.
Keep your speed down.
• The driver responsibility assessment is a fee you must pay to DMV
over a three year period if you are convicted of certain traffic
offenses.
8.
9. DISTRACTION INJURIES
When a person is distracted their full attention is not properly directed toward safe efficient or
productive activities. Accomplishing tasks and goals or being helpful becomes a hazard instead
of rewarding. Instead of “Moving Forward” often our efforts are wasted. Injury comes in the form of
underachievement, accidents or fatality.
EXTERNAL DISTRACTIONS
visual triggers, social interactions, music, text messages, phone calls and cancel culture.
INTERNAL DISTRACTIONS
drugs, medication, alcohol hunger, fatigue, illness, worrying, and daydreaming

1. National security
2. Border strategies
3. Countering crime

Our organized travel and lives depends on public safety.

AUTOMATED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
Americans walk and drive in urban, suburban and rural areas for business and recreational
purposes. Incorporating protection of resources into the transportation development process is
essential while managing growth in a coordinated, regional manner.
• Ensuring seamless and expedited transport of freight to support business growth and
development.
• Facilitating access to national parks, tourist attractions, and recreational areas and to
nurture economic development in the gateway communities.
• Enhancing emergency preparedness and public safety resources for access to emergency
response services and safe evacuation routes wherever people live or travel.
• Addressing mobility and transportation needs of aging; physical and mentally challenged
populations.

17. AUTOMATED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
ATS Automated Transportation Systems help to explain how both the driver & pedestrian
can measure automated traffic systems (ats) and connected intersections:
DO YOUR NOTICE ANY OF THESE TREATMENTS IN YOUR COMMUNITY?
HOV, High-impact & Mid-section lanes or jogging /bike /skating trails.
Seating, public facilities, inclement weather shelter and water fountains.
Crosswalk & intersection culpability, lighting and disability implementations.
