THE POWER OF PERSONAL
BRANDING THRU THE USE OF
SOCIAL MEDIA
N O M AT T E R W H AT I N D U S T R Y Y O U A R E I N Y O U
NEED TO USE PERSONAL BRANDING.
WHAT IS PERSONAL BRANDING?
A definition of Personal Branding is:
Personal branding is marketing your career,
expertise and yourself as “The Brand”.
My personal definition: Highlighting and
showcasing your expertise to everyone, setting
yourself apart from your company and everyone
in your field. *Branding is not just for celebs….
DISCOVER YOUR BRAND
I speak about my own personal experience and
not things that I have heard from other people.
When you want to brand yourself you need to
reflect on what you really like and want to do.
Because it takes a lot of time and energy to build
a brand. You want to make sure that when you
make the decision, regarding what your brand is.
..that it is something that will not only be
financially a good move, but also that you are
going to enjoy what ever you are going to be
doing.
KEYS TO SUCCESS
Create profiles on Linked In, Google Plus, Pinterest, Twitter & Facebook to
start. I like these profiles because they help you show up in the search
results on Google, Bing and Yahoo. I listed them in the order of what I
feel should be created first to last.

Create each profile and make sure it is totally complete, do one profile when
it is 100% complete move on to the next. 1 complete profile is better
that 5 half complete profiles.
Profile picture should be appropriate for your industry.
Once your profiles are complete you must actively use them for posting
information, information about you and relevant articles about your
industry. Don’t make it all about yourself, mix it up. Also not all business
throw in some personal…
Make it a practice to spend min 30 minutes a day on your Social Media
activities. With Facebook and Twitter being on most phones you should
be in a habit of posting on these platforms at least five times a day,
throughout different times of the day.
Stay devoted this is a process of planting seeds ,watering and cultivating the
seeds to grow, so that you will be able to start seeing the fruits of your
labor.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO START?
Bio- Detailing an overview of your experiences and expertise. Make sure this
description is focused on what you are branding yourself as. Ex: I
specialize in Online Marketing and Social Media, and my target industry
is entertainment.
Pictures both professional and personal at least 30 pictures to start……
Website
 www.whoistarawilliams.com
Custom Email Address
 questions@whoistarawilliams.com
Custom URL
 whoistarawilliams.com, having your custom domain is important when
building your personal brand because it shows that you are professional
and the domain should contain the name of your brand. Think about it do
major brands like AT & T. have a google email address at&t@gmail.com,
exactly so neither should your brand.
 I am all about branding on a budget but your investment through GoDaddy should be no more than $100.00 bucks a year, but domain names
vary in price so you will need to check what you are looking for to see the
exact price. But this is an investment in you. So you have to be willing to
invest mostly time but some money also.
SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS FOR BRANDING
Linked In
Facebook Fan Page
Twitter
Google Plus
Pinterest
Set Google & Yahoo Alerts- for your name, and relevant
keywords. To help you monitor easily what is being
mentioned online and draw it to your attention.
These are some of my top Social Media platforms that I
use for my own personal branding. For a list of other
platforms I use go to: www.xeeme.com/whoistara
WHAT DOES EACH SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM DO TO
HELP YOUR PERSONAL BRAND?
Linked In- Your professional calling card, your resume, with references,
projects, interests. Added bonus is your access to your connections and
thousands of other connections that you can develop. Creating synergies
with other professionals in your space, new clients. Through the use of
groups, forums you can draw attention to your brand. And through the
posts that you make relating to your current projects and activities draw
attention to your brand as well. Refer to my profile as an Example:
http://www.linkedin.com/in/whoistarawilliams,
Facebook Fan Page- Again this is a way for you to showcase who you are
professionally and personally. Mix it up keep it interesting, share
relevant articles, discuss what projects you are working on. Put the
spotlight on your accomplishments. Post lots of pictures!!!
http://www.linkedin.com/in/whoistarawilliams

Twitter- Make your description direct to highlight your areas of expertise.
Example: @whoistara, display your logo on your profile. Make your
picture fun and interesting. Should be appropriate for your industry.
WHAT DOES EACH SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM DO TO
HELP YOUR PERSONAL BRAND?
Google Plus-Create a profile display all of your links and
urls, share information, pictures and articles, join
circles and develop a following.
Example:
https://plus.google.com/u/1/+TaraWilliamswhoistara
Pinterest- Visual Social Media create boards relating to
things about you from a personal and professional
aspect. And place detailed descriptions about each
picture. Example:

clients. Not you calling them, but having them to call you.
Having a client that has a developed brand, well known or a celebrity with a
serious reputation send out a Tweet endorsing you. Having someone

I have experience the Power… and that is why I encourage people that no
matter what you do, ensure that you protect yourself and your ability to
always thrive and make money. Whether you are self-employed or

GOLDEN NUGGETS

Branding yourself online is key if you are looking for employment.
Most recruiters are using Social Media platform as a way to find
candidates.
Branding yourself online is key if you are in sales. You want to forget
Sales 101, and cold calling. And manipulate the Power Of Social
Media to keep people contacting you , that want to work with you
hire you or consult with you.
Branding yourself online is key to setting yourself apart from all the
other people in your industry. This is the way to showcase what
truly makes you different than the rest.
The Power of Social Media for Personal Branding is how I came to
be in front of you this afternoon at Socon14.
 If you spend the time in developing your online brand you will get
results. And like myself….I started developing my personal brand
before after leaving a corporate company. So I understand the time
effort and the struggle. But, I know that it pays off. Because
through me developing my personal branding I have my own
thriving business. And have never had to look back. Find your
passion what you love, brand yourself based on your expertise in
that area and just stay focused and the Power takes over. I still
