2013-2014 Academy Term
2. Film: The Digital Filmmaking program allows students the opportunity to work with a professional filmmaker to learn the start-to-finish pro-
cess of creating a short film. Classes will include instruction on operating the equipment, creating storylines, how to edit footage, and more. Class
offerings vary each semester.
Music: Our Music program is comprised of basic music classes,
private instrumental and voice lessons, and classes designed for
musical theatre. Students at all levels are taught necessary music
concepts as well as performance skills. With our state-of-the-art
music technology lab, opportunities for music cutting, mixing, and
editing are now also available.
Homeschool Arts Program: For homeschool
families looking to add fine arts to their curriculum, Blackbird offers
blocks of daytime classes that include music, creative writing, and
visual arts. Students may take one or all classes in a block. Classes
are currently available for Pre-K-8th grade.
Theatre: The Theatre program at Blackbird starts with
age seven by introducing students to basic acting concepts
and helping them find their voices. As students progress,
the focus shifts to include more memorization, character
development, and they are given more opportunities to bring
their craft to the stage.
Visual Arts: Visual art classes at Blackbird begin with preschool
and elementary ages, with each class providing a strong foundation in
basic drawing, painting, and multi-media skills. Classes such as Intro to
Drawing, Watercolor, Intro to 3-D Art and Painting Basics are offered to
intermediate students and adults.

Creative Writing program focuses on
the creative aspect of writing skills.
Students work in a variety of genres-
from poetry to fiction, non-fiction to
essay-in an encouraging workshop
environment.

Sewing: The Sewing program
at Blackbird was founded to instruct
students in everything from basic skills
to costume design. Introductory level
classes introduce students to sewing
by machine and hand, as well as how
to use patterns and construct simple
projects. As students advance they
begin to focus on how to create pieces
for themselves, as well as others.

Dance: Blackbird’s Dance
program is centered on giving
students at all levels a proper
technical foundation. The
department operates as a pre-
professional, ballet based training
program, beginning with age
three. We currently offer classical
ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, lyrical
and contemporary, tap, and hip
hop. Body conditioning and adult
classes are available.
