The document discusses memories of playing with fire hydrants during hot summer days as a child. It describes how the entire neighborhood would open the hydrants and soak anyone who walked by. It acknowledges that wasting water is no longer acceptable today. The author encourages remembering fond memories of fire hydrants from childhood and staying safe during the current heat wave and violence plaguing their hometown of Jersey City.

Memories:
I
know
many
of
my
friends
back
east
are
dealing
with
temperatures
exceeding
100
degrees
everyday
and
have
been
for
weeks.
Hopefully
you
all
are
staying
cool
especially
looking
out
for
the
babies
and
seniors
and
those
with
disabilities.
I
have
some
memories
about
the
sweltering
heat
that
truly
just
make
me
smile
from
especially
my
time
living
on
Randolph
Avenue
and
the
fire
hydrant.
Between
Claremont
and
Myrtle
Avenues
especially.
Whenever
the
block
got
hot
don't
you
dare
come
walking
around
there
all
brave
like
nothing
was
going
to
happen
to
you
because
absolutely
everyone
that
rolled
through
there
got
soak
and
wet
drenched
in
water
from
the
fire
hydrant.
No
matter
how
cool
you
might
have
thought
you
were
you
got
soaked
and
the
entire
block
would
pick
you
physically
up
off
the
ground
and
put
you
right
in
the
water
no
matter
what
you
had
on
you
knew
not
to
come
through
there
if
you
didn't
want
to
get
wet.
The
hydrant
would
stay
on
for
hours
and
nobody
would
complain
about
the
water
pressure
and
even
the
police
wouldn't
bother
us
it
was
pure
unadulterated
fun.
Every
once
in
a
while
some
tough
Tony
in
a
car
would
drive
up
saying
don't
get
my
car
wet
and
of
course
we'd
totally
submerge
the
car
in
water
but
it
was
all
fun
and
remember
we're
talking
maybe
close
to
40
years
ago
or
more.
2. I
know
today
and
these
times
are
different
and
water
definitely
isn't
something
that
can
be
wasted
at
all
and
the
society
and
people
aren't
as
accepting
any
longer
of
just
having
unadulterated
fun.
But
today
for
a
second
if
you're
old
school
close
your
eyes
and
think
about
how
much
fun
the
fire
hydrant
use
to
be
no
matter
what
city
you
may
have
grown
up
in
and
smile.
So
remember
to
drink
plenty
of
fluids
and
watch
out
for
the
small
children
and
those
with
disabilities
remember
to
stay
cool
my
friends
and
when
you
receive
an
opportunity
remember
to
smile
when
you
drive
by
and
see
a
hydrant
near
you.
I
am
praying
for
all
my
friends
and
family
located
especially
in
my
hometown
of
Jersey
City

I
know
the
violence
has
been
unbelievable
these
last
few
weeks
please
be
safe.
RIP
to
longtime
friend
as
well
Dawoo
aka
Mousey
remember
life
isn't
short
at
all
some
people
are
just
moving
extremely
to
fast.
Take
your
time
gods
at
work
and
has
a
plan
for
us
all,
peace.
