2. DROWNING
• DEFF=A death due to submersion in a liquid
resulting hypoxemia to body tissues and
irreversible anoxia to nervous tissues.
• EXP=
• =>PHASES INVOLVED
• 1=Breath holding phase,
• 2=involuntary inspiration,
• 3=gasping of air unconsciousness.

• Death is secondarily
• Due to cerebral hypoxia leading to irreversible
brain damage.
4. CAUSES OF DEATH
• Mechanical obstruction of alveoli
• Transudation of protein rich fluid into alveoler
spaces
• Hypoxia
• Pulmonary edema
• Incase of hypotonic water
hypokalimia,hyponatremia occur
• Incase of hypertonic hypernatrimia and
hyperkalemia occur

• Vagal reflex also increase the alveoler capillary
constraction and periphral resistance and
reduce ventilation
• Asphaxia to tissues
6. Nacropsy findings
• Froths on nostrils and mouth if freshly
drowned(also in airways)
• Froth also present in left ventricular failure
• Lungs weights normal incase of first cardiac
arrest and over weight in case of water
inhalation (over inflated and fill thoraxic
cavity).
• Emphysema aquasum

• Externally marbled appearance with dark red
areas
• Subpleural bullae
• Superficial injuries externally
• Sand and stones found in animal lungs(fresh)
• If dispersed then old
• Skin swollen removing of keratin layer and
hooves
