2. ❖ Software:
● Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks. It is the
opposite of hardware, which describes the physical aspects of a computer. Software can be divided into different
types, such as system software, and application software.
❖ System Software:
● Set of programs to control and manage the operation of comp H/ware.
● Provides a platform on which other software can run.
● Required to allow H/Ware and S/Ware to run without problems.
● Provides a human computer interface (HCI)
● Controls the allocation and usage of hardware resources.
● Some examples of S/Ware are O/S system , Utility programs , and Device Drivers.
3. ❖ Application Software:
● Used to perform various applications on a comp.
● Allows a user to perform specific task using the computer resources.
● May be a single program or a suite of program.
● User can execute the software as and when they require.
● Some examples of application software are spreadsheet, word processor, and
database.

4. ❖ Utility Software:
● Computer Users are provided by number of Utility programs that are part of
system software.
● Utility Software are often initiative by the user, but some, notably virus
checkers often just run in the background without the need of any user input.
● Some Utility programs are Virus Checkers, Backup Softwares, Security, and
Screensavers.
5. ❖ Operating Systems:
● To enable computer systems to function correctly and to communicate with
computer systems, software known as an operating system needs to be
installed.
● An operating system provides both the environment in which applications can
be run and a useable interface between human and computer.
