Halisahar Utsav Quiz-2018
In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century
Europe, the mouths of the rich & poor alike were rotten due to
high rise in sugar consumption. Attempts at whitening teeth,
with acid solutions wore away the enamels. For those who could
afford it, the answer was a set of false teeth carved from
ivory or bone and riveted in place with a gold pin. The biggest
drawback of all was that the lack of enamel on bone and ivory
meant decay soon set in. But since dentistry was still in its
infancy then, cost of dentures was way out of the reach of
the common people.
But a certain incident in Europe in the early part of the 19th
century caused the price of denture fall down heavily and
made it available for the middle class too.

Halisahar Utsav Quiz-2018
At the dawn of the 19th century, many Gothic
buildings were demolished and new modern constructions were
built in their place in France. The Gothic architecture became
undervalued. One example of the destruction of the Gothic buildings
was the replacement of the original stained glass windows of a
premier Paris landmark with plain white glass, just to let light
inside it. One certain popular figure was greatly disturbed with this.
He published a paper named “War to the Demolishers”, in
which he openly spoke about the importance of the architecture as
an art form. However, the paper did not have any lasting effect.
After a toil of 2 years came his best ever creation which was a
reminder of the importance of Gothic architecture. It became
extremely popular and instigated the creation of a movement
which fought for the preservation of the Gothic
architecture in Paris.
