Slide Deck from our latest webcast:SharePoint UI 2010 vs. 2013. In this Webcast, Robert Piddocke presents the findings of his usability study for the new search user interface in SharePoint 2013 and compares the differences between the SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 user experience. He will also present the finding of a survey conducted by SurfRay and give some suggestions for improving user-adoption for Search while transitioning to SharePoint 2013.

We asked 10 questions in 3 topics:
• Have you used SharePoint 2013 search?
• Do you like it/ Do you think it’s better?
• Are you going to customize/develop with it?

We tested multiple queries from our test system using the following terms:
Technical: fracking, anti-depressent, ciprimil, methane
People: Josh, Joshua, Josh*, Nobel, nobl*, Sales, sales contact.
HR: wellness, initiative, menu, vacations
Images: .jpg, pill, red

13. Results
• Ranking was different – title is deprecated by default
• Titles are missing metadata – supported somewhat in hoverpane
• Some summary data is missing
• Result blocks and Result types are available for customization
• Scopes are not easily modified
• Search is cleaner but gives less information

14. Adoption Analysis
• Change not seen as an adoption barrier
• Can be seen as positive – ‘this is an improvement’
• Tuning although rare is a possibility
• New UI’s are generally well received
