19. Installation Method
1. Starts with Floor Preparation
2. Laying by
a. Direct Glue Down Method
b. On VBS™ System
c. On Ply System
3. Sanding
4. Gap filling
5. Buffing
6. Oiling / Finishing
20. Floor Preparation
Plastering and concrete work must be completely dry with
minimum of 90 days curing time with cement to sand ratio at 1:3.
Flooring must be clean, smooth and free of wax, paint, oil, sealers,
adhesives, curing agents and other debris.
Relative humidity in the building should be maintained at between
30-50 percent is key to optimum wood flooring performance at all
times prior, during and subsequent to installation.
Where there is a deviation of more than 3 mm below two high
points in a slab within a 1.5 m length, a concrete topping (levelling
compound), grinding or packing should be used.
We apply Bona H600 Levelling Compound which is a cementitious,
self-smoothing & rapid hardening up to 3 to 10mm depending
upon the site condition and level the same using Bona Grinder to
get a flat surface.
21. a) Direct Glue Down Method
Direct Glue Down Method is suggested for S4S blocks of 11x50mm &
T&G 11x73mm wide and a max length < 3 ft / 914.4mm.
Installation by this method suits above grade and on grade floor
levels. Moisture content of the hardwood flooring will be within the
acceptable moisture range of 9% to 14%.
Acclimatization of wooden planks to be done prior to installation to
sync it with the surrounding humidity & temperature.
We follow ASTM F710 installation guidelines for hardwood flooring
using relative humidity testing.
While fastening - Bona R848 an elastic one-component Silane based
adhesive designed for the installation of solid wood floors. It exhibits
Rapid shear strength development known as “Green Grab” means the
flooring stays in place – Flooring is ready for furniture and foot traffic
in one day.
22. b) On VBS™ Installation System
Batten Installation system is best suited for below grade floor levels and where the
plank lengths are > 4 feet.
The entire flooring level is considered to be below grade where soil is present along
any perimeter wall and is more than 3" above the installed wood flooring level. In
such cases vapor retarder is always required over the concrete slab and below the
joist/subfloor level.
In batten system plank thickness should be at a minimum thickness of 15mm.
Batterns of 10mm/30mm thick/width is laid with a gap of 6”. The Wooden planks are
layed perpendicular to the Batterns. Nailing is done at 45 degress at the tongue
which fastens to the battens.
Once the frame has been installed, Need to make sure expansion gap has been
provided in the corners as per ASTM methods.
23. c) On Ply Installation System
After initial floor preparation, Check the required floor height to install the BWP
plywood. Make sure its nailed and glued.
Make sure expansion gap has been provided in the corners.
Bona D705 Hard dispersion based adhesive characterized by its strong adhesion
properties and longer open time Suitable for a wide range of parquets is used for
laying the wooden planks. The same will be supported by a cross nailing system.
24. 3) SANDING
We start sanding with a rough grit, 36 / 40 grit which goes upto 120 grit. Sanding
would level the floor and remove the previous finish along with any dents and
scratches.
Sanding with the grain produces a smoother surface because it doesn’t effect the
micro-structure of the wood. Sanding across the grain really tears the fibres of the
wood and helps to remove the worn surface very quickly.
Once you have sanded the floor diagonally with the rough grit, you should then go
over the whole area again with the same grit but going with the grain of the wood.
Corners of the room will be handled by Bona edge sander & get it down level with
the rest of the floor.
The versatile Bona Flexisand 1.5, equipped with Bona QuattroDisc dust free sanding
system, easily removes scratchs from previous sanding for fine and even wood
surface.
25. 4. Gap Filling
Bona Mix & fill is mixed with the sanded dust and used for gap filling.
Bona Buffing machine is used to buff the floor to remove wood fibre followed by
application of Bona Prime Intense (Primer)
Second round of Buffing is carried out which makes the floor ready for the finishing
coat.
26. 3) Oiling / Finishing
Bona extends the perception of your wooden floor performance. With sustainability and
safety in mind, key solutions enable low emissions over the finished floor’s life.
Bona Mega / Resident made from modified plant based oil with isocyanate hardener,
exhibits accelerated drying time and strengthened wear resistance. It delivers a beautiful
and strong water- and stain-resistant surface and is ready for light use in just 8 hours.
Uniquely long open time and pot life – easy to work with
