1. CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
We invite you to explore a transformational
journey of awakening creativity for healing,
personal growth, professional development
and positive social change.
2. This certificate program founded by
Dr. Natalie Rogers is unique
because it combines experiential
learning, theory and practice in the
person-centered philosophy of Carl
Rogers and the expressive arts.
Our PCEAT training program
consists of six week-long residential
intensive courses over two years,
with a commitment to both years.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
3. Expressive arts refers to using the
emotional, intuitive aspects of
ourselves through movement, art,
sound, journal writing and
psychodrama.
It does not use art to diagnose,
analyze or ‘treat’ people. We use
the arts to let go, to express, to gain
insight and self-empowerment.
WHAT IS “EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPY”?
4. We are psychotherapists, social workers, educators,
counselors, nurses, and organizational consultants.
We work with people in private sessions, facilitate groups,
and teach classes. We work in clinics, hospitals, recovery
centers, educational institutions, organizations and other
facilities that promote creativity and mental health. In
many cases we are artists ourselves.
WHO ARE PERSON-CENTERED
EXPRESSIVE ARTS PRACTITIONERS?
5. ABOUT OUR STUDENTS
Our participants come from around the globe. They are of
all ages and come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
They attend six week-long courses over two years at a
beautiful retreat, Westerbeke Ranch, in the rolling hills of
the wine country 45 minutes north of San Francisco.

and to learn ways to explore that creativity with a freedom of self-
expression that is healing and transformative.”
~ Dr. Natalie Rogers
THE CREATIVE CONNECTION® PROCESS
of Dr. Natalie Rogers
…combines the different
modalities of expressive arts in a
synergistic tapestry—each one
deepening and building on the
other to create an experience
that far exceeds any one
modality used on its own.
8. “The client-centered or person-centered approach developed by my
father, Carl Rogers, emphasizes the therapist’s role as being
empathic, open, honest, congruent, and caring as she listens in
depth and facilitates the growth of an individual or a group.”
“This philosophy incorporates the belief that each individual has
worth, dignity, and the capacity for self-direction. Carl Rogers’
philosophy is based on a trust in an inherent impulse toward growth
in every individual. I base my approach to expressive arts therapy
on this very deep faith in the innate capacity of each person to
reach toward her full potential.”
~ Natalie Rogers
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE
“PERSON-CENTERED”?
9. You will practice the person-centered skills developed by Carl
Rogers in each of the six courses:
PERSON-CENTERED SKILLS
Dr. Carl Rogers
• active listening
• empathic response
• positive regard
• and congruence
This will enhance your personal
relationships, your counseling and
coaching skills, and be applicable in
all professional situations.
10. A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE IN
A SAFE, SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
The Person-Centered Expressive Arts Certificate Program will transform
the way you think about yourself and the creative process. The six
courses that make up the program are designed to connect participants
to body, psyche, soul, and our world.
11. The person-centered approach is a profound way of
being that enhances emotional intelligence, facilitates
healing of ourselves and others, fosters healthy
relationships, and helps us realize our authenticity and
greatest potential.
AND A NEW WAY OF BEING
12. LIVING AND LEARNING TOGETHER
Being in an ongoing mult-cultural cohort allows us to appreciate and
learn from each other. We practice listening deeply to each other and
resolving our conflicts.
