1. ExecutiveSummary
Our project for the course project will consist of upgrading our data center. Our current setup consists
of two computers running remotely; one is the main game hosting server while the other runs backups of the
important information on the main server. We were able to gather together 100,000 dollars for the upgrade
and plan on setting up shop in a dedicated room. The upgrade will require brand new servers capable of
hosting multiple gaming servers at once, racks to house the equipment, selection of a new location, wiring said
location so it can handle a small data center, and routers/switches to connect the network to the internet. The
location needs to be capable of cooling the equipment or will need to be upgraded to allow for a system
capable of cooling the equipment. The data center will also host our website and will need a dedicated
connection to the Internet capable of at least 1000 Mbps for both the webserver and hosting machines. The
data center will be designed to host virtual servers for the latest games on the market. Currently our system is
only capable of hosting a single Minecraft server with a community of about 50 players on at any one time.

2. ProjectCharter
Our goals are to take an existing database center, and move/upgrade it to a newer building.
We are trying to get bigger because we regrew out of our original size. We want to use better
equipment so we can get a bigger customer base. This is part of a larger project. This project will
create higher quality of online gaming. It gives a chance for developers to utilize the server’s limits.
We are taking our existing equipment, moving to a new building and adding on more
equipment for higher quality and better customer service. We plan on leasing a building as well as

leasing or owning equipment. The five outputs we will have are better customer service; increasing
the number of customers, increase the quality of gaming, stronger network band lines, and best bang
for the buck for the customers. This project is designed to meet all of the expandability of our
datacenter. This will also provide our customers with multi-able gaming platform and more server
availability.
Our goals are to stay with-in budget, complete our job on time, deliver on our promise to
having a better game center, focus on service continuity, and achieve greater cloud services. We plan
to cut costs by renting the datacenter space We are doing this project due to our customer’s demand
for server space and an option of playing a variety of games on our platforms. The upgrade will add
new servers capable of hosting multiple gaming servers at once. The new location will also provide a
cooler environment for the equipment.
This will be a financial gain for the owner as well as a better gaming experience for the
owner. Word of mouth promotion will help the revenue for the owner as well. We are acquiring the
building first, on 11/6/2015. We will spec out and order equipment on 11/9/2015. Also on 11/9/2015
we are setting up a date for our metro Ethernet. Next, we are getting the equipment needed on
11/13/2015. We start wiring up the servers on 11/14/2015. Also, on 11/14/15 we are getting the
installation of metro Ethernet. On 11/18/2015 we will be doing a stress test on the servers to make
sure they work well with high volume.
A beta testing invite to our customers will be on 11/20/15 to 11/22/15. On 11/25/15 we are
doing an editing and reviewing/bug repair to our servers. 12/07/2015 is the launch date of our servers.
We are doing our own quality control so we are monitoring everything. Getting the servers up and
running would be our minimum success. We will monitor and measure our success by seeing how
well our servers work and how smoothly the customers like it. The project owners will determine it a

success if we stay in budget, the work being completed and the servers being used to their maximum
potential.

3. Project Scope Statement
Our goal for this project will be to relocate our existing gaming database center and expand

our servers due to high demand from our customers for more server space and ability to access
multiple gaming platforms from our servers. At the moment we are providing service with 1 server
and 1 backup server for redundancy, our goal will be to upgrade to 20 new servers.
Phase One:
This project will create higher quality of online gaming for our customers and it gives a chance for
developers to utilize the server’s limits. We will be leasing a datacenter colocation which will provide
the HVAC to keep our servers at the proper temperature, and also will be providing powering and
also back up redundant power. This colocation will also have onsite security and monitoring of space
and will alert us if there any major issues at the location. The space will require one to two racks for
our 20 per U servers and switches and routers and for future expandability. We will be responsible for
the wiring of our servers, routers and switch and choosing our service provider.
Phase Two:
Once we have acquired our server colocation we will begin the process of acquiring our 20 new
servers. We have decided to obtain Dell Power edge R730 Series servers and a Cisco 10 Gigabit
Switch.
Phase Three:
We will set date of product arrival and call our local service provider for activation of their Metro
Ethernet service and set a date for installation. The service provider will supply us with a 1 Gbps
bandwidth and a router for access into the Internet. As the equipment arrives at our old location we
will verify that the servers are actually working and no damage was done from the transport. We will
then transport all of our equipment to the new colocation site and begin mounting servers and switch
to the rack. (Router will be already mounted to rack since service provider supplies the router to us.)

Phase Four:
As installation of servers and switch has been complete we will begin with the wiring of the
servers to the switch and then to our router. We will be using Category 6A wiring of our network.
Phase Five:
Once we have finalized wiring of our network we will begin stress testing the servers and also
acquiring licensing for the servers for the games we will be providing to our customers, We will be
keeping our customer updated of our progress with social media and our website.
Phase Six:
As our internal stress test comes to a conclusion we will make any adjustments that are needed and
we will begin the next set of testing with a BETA test with our customers testing the server. We will
invite a certain amount of customers to come and test our servers for an allotted time most likely a
weekend to test servers, this will also give the customer a chance to give feedback to us and report
any bugs or issues with the server so we can attempt to resolve prior to actual launch. We will also
begin advertising of launch date so customers can be prepared and also for new customers to
purchase games prior to launch (eg. PRE-ORDER)
Phase Seven:
As our beta testing comes to a conclusion we will take any input our customers had during this
phase and work on making any improvements to the server prior to launch. We will keep updating
our customers via social media and our website with any changes and setbacks if any.

We will advertise via social media and website of any updates and launch date. On launch date we
will have on site support just in case any issues arise and we can resolve in a timely manner. Servers
will be open to all customers and website will be fully functional for customers (forums, server status,
game FAQ, support etc.)

Project Scope Statement Our goal for this project will be to relocate our existing gaming database center and expand

At the moment we are providing service with 1 server and 1 backup server for redundancy, our goal will be to upgrade to 20 new servers. Phase One: This project will create higher quality of online gaming for our customers and it gives a chance for developers to utilize the server’s limits. We will be leasing a datacenter colocation which will provide the HVAC to keep our servers at the proper temperature, and also will be providing powering and also back up redundant power. This colocation will also have onsite security and monitoring of space and will alert us if there any major issues at the location. The space will require one to two racks for our 20 per U servers and switches and routers and for future expandability. We will be responsible for the wiring of our servers, routers and switch and choosing our service provider. Phase Two: Once we have acquired our server colocation we will begin the process of acquiring our 20 new servers. We have decided to obtain Dell Power edge R730 Series servers and a Cisco 10 Gigabit Switch. Phase Three: We will set date of product arrival and call our local service provider for activation of their Metro Ethernet service and set a date for installation. The service provider will supply us with a 1 Gbps bandwidth and a router for access into the Internet. As the equipment arrives at our old location we will verify that the servers are actually working and no damage was done from the transport. We will then transport all of our equipment to the new colocation site and begin mounting servers and switch to the rack. (Router will be already mounted to rack since service provider supplies the router to us.)

We will be using Category 6A wiring of our network. Phase Five: Once we have finalized wiring of our network we will begin stress testing the servers and also acquiring licensing for the servers for the games we will be providing to our customers, We will be keeping our customer updated of our progress with social media and our website. Phase Six: As our internal stress test comes to a conclusion we will make any adjustments that are needed and we will begin the next set of testing with a BETA test with our customers testing the server. We will invite a certain amount of customers to come and test our servers for an allotted time most likely a weekend to test servers, this will also give the customer a chance to give feedback to us and report any bugs or issues with the server so we can attempt to resolve prior to actual launch. We will also begin advertising of launch date so customers can be prepared and also for new customers to purchase games prior to launch (eg. PRE-ORDER) Phase Seven: As our beta testing comes to a conclusion we will take any input our customers had during this phase and work on making any improvements to the server prior to launch.
