2. What is DIABETES?
Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by the inability of
the body to produce insulin or to properly use the insulin it
produces. Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of
blood glucose (sugar). Diabetes leads to high blood sugar
levels that can damage organs, blood vessels and nerves.
Our body needs insulin to use sugar as an energy source.
