1. Icon Microphone Setup Guide
To begin, remove the outer box
sleeve and unpackage the mic
components as shown.
There are three levels of foam.
Make sure to grab the mic,
cable, and stand at the bottom.
2. To attach the microphone to the stand,
twist the threaded portion of the stand
into the bottom of the mic clamp.
To angle the microphone twist the release
knob to the counter clockwise, position the
mic capsule, then twist the knob clockwise
to lock in place.
1 – 3 Feet
The best positioning for the
mic is about one to three feet
away, pointing at your mouth.
3. Plug the USB cable into the back of the
microphone. The provided cable is mini
USB to USB type A. If you have a newer
computer with USB type C inputs, you
will need an adapter.
Raise the gain knob on the back of the
microphone to about 3 or 4 on a clock
face. This may already be set for you
when the microphone arrives.
If you are using a pair of headphones as
your system audio output, you can plug
them into the 3.5 mm port on the back
of the microphone. Note: If you are
using speakers as your system audio
output, audio played from those
speakers will be picked up by the
microphone in the recording.
4. The Icon has three different LED indicators on the underside of the microphone.
Blue: Indicates that the
mic is plugged in via USB
and powered on.
Red: The input signal is
too loud and causing
clipping. This can be
solved by lowering the
gain knob.
Green: An application on
your computer is actively
streaming audio from the
microphone.
Next, you will need to set the Earthworks Icon as your computer’s default input
and output audio devices (unless you are using a separate pair of speakers or
wireless headphones for output).
The Icon will appear as “USB Audio CODEC” in the device lists.
5. On a Windows computer, navigate to Control Panel < Hardware and Sound < Sound,
then set the default Playback and Recording devices to the Icon.
If your computer is using macOS, navigate to System Preferences < Sound, then select
the Icon in the Input and Output tabs.
6. Finally, you will select the Icon as the recording device in the screen capture software you
are using to record your course. If your computer is running macOS, you will be using
Screenflick. If your computer is running Windows, you will most likely be using Bandicam.
For more detailed instructions on setting up these screen capture applications, please visit
lnkd.in/remotesetup.
In Screenflick, select USB audio
CODEC from the microphone
dropdown menu in the Record tab.
In Bandicam, navigate to the Video tab,
then click on the Settings button in the
Record section. Select USB audio CODEC
from the Microphone dropdown.
Congratulations! You have now
completed setup for the Earthworks Icon
microphone. If you have any questions or
require troubleshooting assistance,
please consult the documentation at
lnkd.in/remotesetup or consult your
producer. Good luck recording!
