Approached by owner to both take the role of interim CEO and find a buyer for
the club.
Undertook a root and branch review of financial and operational controls
resulting in accurate management accounts (for the first time) and vastly
improved cash flow.
Actively marketed the club to the council, local interested parties and
overseas buyers. After 8 months a sale was finalised for an effective price
of £5 million – 50% higher than expectations.
Thompsons Solicitors
Initially appointed on a 6 month contract to analyse profitability of business of the
major Trade Union law firm in the UK. It quickly became apparent that, despite a
turnover of £32 million, losses were running at £3 million p.a. and the capital base
had eroded to £50,000. Unsurprisingly the firm’s bankers were threatening to
withdraw funding. As a result I was approached to address both the financial and
operational problems which were threatening the future of the firm.
Agreed with the funders the following actions:
Raise £1 million from partners,
Restructure the organisation from a traditional partnership to a corporate
structure and
Renew focus on income generation, cost control and cash flow.
As a consequence funders increased their facilities and I was appointed interim
CFO and Non-Executive Chairman.
Over the next 18 months:
Profits of £6 + million p.a.,
The capital base increased to £5 + million,
Corporate structure and totally revised financial and operating reporting
systems adopted resulting in:
Clear decision making and
A clear distinction between ownership and management.
Other Interim Financial Management / Consulting Assignments
A number of medium duration (6-8 month) assignments at FD level focusing on
financial re-engineering, business controls improvement, business and operational
review and systems development.
Highlights:
Managed refinancing of Lincolnshire based logistics group.
Subsequently devised and implemented financial and operational controls
and reporting systems, marketing and sales strategies and HR procedures.
3. Developed strategic plan and identified, quantified and qualified investors
