2. LITHUANIA
Lithuania is a member of the European Union
since May 1, 2004.
Lithuania’s name was first mentioned over one
thousand years ago, in 1009.
In the Middle Ages, Lithuania was the largest
state in the Eastern Europe.
At the moment, Lithuanian population is about
3,5 million.

3. About KARAITES in Lithuania
Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas brought some
families of Karaites from the Crimea to Trakai at
the begining of the 14th century and guaranteed
them privileges.
A small Karaites community remained in Trakai
and has preserved its language, customs and
houses with three windows (one for God, one
for the family, and one for the Grand Duke
Vytautas).

5. One of the youngest towns of Lithuania –

6. Elektrenai Centre of Vocational
Training
Is a vocational school, which provides learners
with secondary (Gyminasium’s status) and
occupational education in technical and social
fields.

An educational system is fostering the life long
learning.

founded on 1st October 1967.

evaluation and scheme of educational
arrangement.
III stages of vocational education are
developed.
Subjects of general education are taught
according to the needs of specific vocational
education.
There is adequate experience of cooperation
with social partners.

electromechanics
computer operators and tuners
secretaries
cabinetmakers
builders and decoraters

cooks and barmen

in local and national events, expositions and

articles developed by learners during practical
