Scripture Readings for Sunday, November 24 The Reign of Christ
Jeremiah 23: 1-6 Canticle 19 (Luke 1: 68-79) Colossians 1: 11-20 Luke 21 5-19
.

Today’s Choir Anthem at 10:30 a.m. is entitled Cantate Domino by G. O. Pitoni.
Cantate Domino canticum novum: Laus eius in ecclesia sanctorum.
Laetetur Israel in eo qui fecit eum: Et filiae Sion exultent in rege suo.
Sing to the Lord a new canticle: let his praise be in the church of the saints.
Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: and let the children of Sion be joyful in their king.
Gluten free wafers are available for communion. To indicate your need, please pick up a
purple card from a sidesperson. With the purple card in your hand at the altar rail, the
communion minister will know that you require a gluten free wafer .
All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination or age, are invited to receive Communion
in the Anglican Church. If you do not wish to receive the bread and wine, please come to the
Altar, and cross your arms over your chest to receive a blessing.
The Offertory: During the Offertory, we offer many things to God. We offer the bread and wine
of the Eucharist. We also offer ourselves—our cares and concerns, our joys and our sorrows,
our time, our talent, and our treasure.
Children are welcome at St. Nicholas’! Children are invited to attend our Church School
Program downstairs during the 10:30am service.

Today is deadline for returning the boxes for Operation Christmas Child. They will be
blessed at the service today and taken to distribution centre. Thank you to Jennie
Tippet and Marcia Parum for looking after this again this year.
LOOKING AHEAD….. The annual Advent Women’s Quiet Day this year is being led
by our own Rev’d Janet. The date is Friday, December 6th, which coincidentally is St.
Nicholas Day. As usual we will be at St. John’s Convent, 9:30 to 4. The new rate of
$40 covers noon dinner and coffee breaks as well as our usual meeting space in St.
Margaret’s Chapel. We always love to see new faces so don’t hesitate just because
you’ve never come before.
Please assist in the organization of this event by signing up well before the
date (at the Manderley door). The convent now requires a list of names two weeks
prior. Please call Rev’d Joan for further information, etc. Her number is 416 686 8620.
Sunday, December 1st at Noon – The Making of Advent Wreaths:
The candles of an Advent wreath provide a visible symbol of God’s
light increasingly breaking through the darkness as Christmas draws
near. On December 1st, following the 10:30 a.m. Service, families and
individuals will have an opportunity to make their own Advent Wreath
which may then be taken home. Home resources for the lighting of the Advent Wreath
will also be made available. To help ensure that we have enough craft supplies and
resources, please add your name to the sign-up sheet if you would like to participate.
Emergency Relief for the Philippines: We are collecting funds for emergency relief
work in the Philippines. All donations will be forwarded to the Primate’s World Relief and
Development Fund by December 1st to ensure that the gifts will be matched by the
Federal Government. Donations should be made payable to “St. Nicholas Church” with
the Memo line noting “PWRDF – Philippines”. For convenience, special offertory
envelopes are available at the back of the Church. Please continue to uphold the
people of the Philippines in your prayers, as well as all those seeking to bring relief and
support.

The Amazing Christmas Feast returns Sunday, December 22nd from 4- 8 p.m.
Once again, St. Nicholas is joining together with Wimpy’s Diner and Birchmount
Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) to reach out to those in need at Christmas.
Following a turkey dinner with all the trimmings at Wimpy’s, individuals and families
come over to St. Nicholas for dessert, the distribution of gifts and a visit from Santa
Claus.
Once again this year there are several ways to get involved……
 We are collecting non-perishable food items for Christmas hampers distributed
by the “Share Christmas’ program at BBNC. There is a container set up in the
east transept and items need to be received by December 12.
 We are collecting new un-wrapped toys and gift certificates for the kids who
attend our Christmas Feast (in partnership with Wimpy’s Diner and BBNC).
Please keep the cost to a maximum of $20.00.
 As well, we are collecting items for the ‘give-away’ table at the Feast….gently
used items of clothing, sheets, blankets and towels. Also, shampoo, toothpaste
and body wash and other necessities such as toilet paper, Kleenex, detergent
and soap.
For more information, please contact Ken Campbell at 647-504-0415 or by e-mail c/o
the church office at office@stnicholasbirchcliff.com
The Story of Christmas in Scripture and Song (Service of Lessons and Carols)
will be held on Sunday, December 15th at 4 p.m. This year, the Service will be
followed by a pot-luck supper in Robinson Hall. The main course will be provided and
you are invited to bring appetizers, salad or dessert as we join together in fellowship. To
help plan for the main course, please add your name to the sign-up list on the
Manderley bulletin board. And please feel free to invite family and friends!
New Outreach Initiative Pilot Project: The Outreach Committee is organizing an
Adult Community Lunch and Fellowship in Robinson Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 26th and
Tuesday, Dec. 10th. The program will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all adults are
welcome to attend. We are particularly hoping to reach out to those in need within the
wider Birchcliff community. If you are interested in helping with this new initiative by
providing food or providing oversight, please contact Sonia Halloran at
shalloran2@gmail.com or the Church Office.
Our annual Patronal Festival Dinner and Dance will be on Saturday December 7,
at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and are available from Reg McRae at coffee hour
or may be reserved by calling the Church Office at 416--691-0449.
Special Advent Program “The Jesus I Never Knew” by Philip Yancey. Wednesday
evenings (Dec. 4th, 11th & 18th) from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Join us as we explore Who
Jesus Was, What He Did and The Difference He Makes! No previous experience is
necessary. For more information, please contact Rev. Janet at 416-691-0449 or by
email at jrh@stnicholasbirchcliff.com A sign-up sheet is posted on the Manderley

The annual Advent Women’s Quiet Day this year is being led by our own Rev’d Janet. The date is Friday, December 6th, which coincidentally is St. Nicholas Day. As usual we will be at St. John’s Convent, 9:30 to 4. The new rate of $40 covers noon dinner and coffee breaks as well as our usual meeting space in St. Margaret’s Chapel. We always love to see new faces so don’t hesitate just because you’ve never come before. Please assist in the organization of this event by signing up well before the date (at the Manderley door). The convent now requires a list of names two weeks prior. Please call Rev’d Joan for further information, etc. Her number is 416 686 8620. Sunday, December 1st at Noon – The Making of Advent Wreaths: The candles of an Advent wreath provide a visible symbol of God’s light increasingly breaking through the darkness as Christmas draws near. On December 1st, following the 10:30 a.m. Service, families and individuals will have an opportunity to make their own Advent Wreath which may then be taken home. Home resources for the lighting of the Advent Wreath will also be made available. To help ensure that we have enough craft supplies and resources, please add your name to the sign-up sheet if you would like to participate. Emergency Relief for the Philippines: We are collecting funds for emergency relief work in the Philippines. All donations will be forwarded to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund by December 1st to ensure that the gifts will be matched by the Federal Government. Donations should be made payable to “St. Nicholas Church” with the Memo line noting “PWRDF – Philippines”. For convenience, special offertory envelopes are available at the back of the Church. Please continue to uphold the people of the Philippines in your prayers, as well as all those seeking to bring relief and support. The Amazing Christmas Feast returns Sunday, December 22nd from 4- 8 p.m. Once again, St. Nicholas is joining together with Wimpy’s Diner and Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) to reach out to those in need at Christmas. Following a turkey dinner with all the trimmings at Wimpy’s, individuals and families come over to St. Nicholas for dessert, the distribution of gifts and a visit from Santa Claus. Once again this year there are several ways to get involved……  We are collecting non-perishable food items for Christmas hampers distributed by the “Share Christmas’ program at BBNC. There is a container set up in the east transept and items need to be received by December 12.  We are collecting new un-wrapped toys and gift certificates for the kids who attend our Christmas Feast (in partnership with Wimpy’s Diner and BBNC). Please keep the cost to a maximum of $20.00.  As well, we are collecting items for the ‘give-away’ table at the Feast….gently used items of clothing, sheets, blankets and towels. Also, shampoo, toothpaste and body wash and other necessities such as toilet paper, Kleenex, detergent and soap.
