You’ve seen it here first, the review of the new teen
documentary, ideally named ‘The Bucket List’. You
can almost understand the documentary before
you have even seen it, just from hearing the title.
So what is this documentary about? That’s right
you guessed it, it’s about A Bucket list. The
Documentary follows a group of young adults
around while they complete things off their Bucket
List. They do many different types of interesting
activities from going for a day out in London to
going zorbing. I very much enjoyed watching this
documentary and would feel comfortable watching
it with anyone; it is very family friendly and can be
enjoyed by many. I feel the main criticism I have is
the lack of audience interviews, although
interviews have been included I feel that if more
had been included then it would have drawn a
larger audience, without the interviews or public
interaction it is harder for the audience to connect
fully with the writers of the documentary, however
overall I would highly recommend not only
watching this documentary but creating a bucket
list yourself. When looking into other teen
documentaries I realised many similarities and
some good differences. When looking at other
documentaries that were aired to the same target
audience. one of the top similar documentaries is
‘Super-Sized Me’. The documentary supersize me
focus’ on a middle aged American man who eats
nothing but McDonalds for one month straight.
During the interviews the director has placed the
interviewees very precisely, for example during
the interview with one of the journalists they
added a certificate into the background so that the
audience is aware that interviewee is highly
qualified, and during the interview that stated
McDonalds makes kids happier they conducted the
interview in a place that children were going to be
and were seen having fun and being happy. The
music that appears on the soundtrack is very
happy and quirky and may appeal mainly to
teenagers and young adults, this is because the
producers are drawing these people to the
attention of obesity and trying to get the point
across so that they are aware of the issues that
may occur, by adding music like this they will draw
towards it and will realise the dangers of eating
junk food. Whereas the music on ‘The Bucket List’
is very modern and is related to being a youngster,
the music makes the documentary appeal to
mainly girls and teenagers.
.
Super-size me has two modes, the participatory
mode this is because the director participates in the
film, the per formative mode the film maker is
emotionally attached to the happenings in the film.
The Bucket List has both of the two modes that
supersized me has, it too has participation and is
emotionally attached by the director. The main
storyline of the documentary is trying to convince
the audience to create a bucket List and complete
the items on it. The differences between the bucket
list documentary and the documentary super-sized
me are, supersized me may not be suitable for all
ages whereas the bucket list is, Although the
documentary super-sized me is not relevant to
everyone age wise it has a broader subject that
everyone can relate to, the documentary The Bucket
List could only attract people who are interested in
either creating a Bucket List or the activities
involved. The similarities between The Bucket List
and Super-Sized Me are that they are both
informative and trying to teach the audience
something. The documentary has been aimed at the
target age of seventeen to twenty five year olds, in
my eyes, I can see why they have targeted the
audience at this age but I do also believe that it is
valid to be watched by anyone and is suitable for
anyone from family’s to couples to individual
watching. The teenagers within the documentary
are mainly females, although there are sections
which involve male characters the documentary is
mainly female based. I think that this is a strong
criticism against the documentary because it may
make male audiences think differently about
viewing the documentary.
In my view I think that the documentary ‘ The
Bucket List’ should be a high success as it is not only
interesting and direct it is fun and can make the
audience believe in what they want to do. It has the
ability to perhaps help along people who are reluctant
to complete their life dreams and succeed in events
they thought they would never do. I highly
recommend this documentary and would suggest
teenagers in particular watchand follow the means of
this documentary.
