lockdown in March 2020 and it was
postponed to September 2020.
• Many sports viewers migrated from TV to
OTT platforms as there were no live
sporting events happening due to COVID.
IPL viewership on TV dropped by 10% from
2019 to 2020.
• In 2021, IPL was split into 2 phases again
due to COVID which further reduced TV
viewership. Overall OTT Viewership has
increased due to wider accessibility of
internet across the country,
• IPL 2023 will be available to stream for
free on JioCinema which is expected to
further increase OTTas well as overall
viewership.

• Increasing internet accessibility and
penetration is making it easier for the
masses to be able to use gaming
platforms thus providing a push to the
industry. ~80% of the users come from
Tier 2 and beyond cities
• Google has allowed Fantasy platforms to
be available on GooglePlay Store under a
pilot programme. This will further increase
the number of transacting users during
IPL 2023.
• Most platforms have increased their
marketing efforts before IPL season in
order to acquire and convert more and
more users on the platforms.
• Real Money Gaming users have received a
positive push from the governmentafter
the set up of a specific ministry to
overlook the sector. The government has
also formalized rules and regulations
regarding GST for RMG platforms.

Key Insights
• Fantasy platforms offer many different
types of tournaments and table sizes in
order to attract all types of users and
promote them to spend more.
• There has been an increase in efforts to
make platforms more secure and reliable
for the users. Measures like RNG
Certification, Securepayment gateways,
Fraud Security, etc. increasethe users’
trust in the platforms.
• Users feel more confidentand secure in
spending higher amounts on gaming
platforms once the trust is built by the
platforms.
• Platforms have also started offering
lucrativeprizemoney and offers to the
users. Users are given more incentives to
deposit and spend higheramounts to be
able to win more on the apps.
• For example, Dream11 offered
Audi Cars during IPL 2022 and
My11Circle offered Mahindra Thar
during T20 World Cup 2022.
