10. Business Climate
UAE Business Climate
• The UAE is one of the best places in the world
for doing business. The country is ranked 22nd
out of 189 countries in the World Bank’s ease
of doing business index for 2015. This was an
improvement by 3 places compared to 2014.
• The UAE compares well to all GCC countries
and the MENA regional average. The majority
of the countries that have a better rating are
advanced Western economies, such as New
Zealand, USA, Canada.
• The rankings for 3 sub-indices improved, for 3
deteriorated and for the remaining 4 stayed
unchanged. The most significant downgrade
was for the “Starting a Business” index, which
moved back by 9 places. “Protecting Minority
Investors” index registered the greatest
improvement, gaining 59 places.
• The best performing index is historically the
“Paying Taxes”, where UAE ranks first, as there
are virtually no taxes imposed by the
government. Source: Dubai Chamber, based on World Bank doing business database.

Investments in Wholesale and Retail Trade (AED bn)
CAGR: 12.76%
• The wholesale and retail trade sector has
attracted around AED16.8 billion of investments
in 2013 across the UAE.
• The segment has been on a steady growth
trajectory of 12.76% per annum since 2009;
and this healthy growth is expected to continue
in the medium term, supported by a growing
population along with the booming tourism
sector.
• Dubai offers a fertile ground for internet
retailing to flourish; and local/regional players
have the home-field advantage as they are
better suited to cater to local consumer needs.
This is done by providing tailored offerings, fast
home delivery and flexible payment options
such as credit cards, PayPal or cash on
delivery (COD), as well as a reliable return
policy that wins potential customers’ trust.
• It is also crucial for online retailers to cater to
the younger generation of buyers by focusing
on smartphone/tablet friendly interfaces for
their websites.

Investments in Social and Personal Services (AED bn)
CAGR: 32.01%
• Services such as health, well being and
education have witnessed a boom between
2009 and 2013 at a very strong CAGR of 32%.
Such growth brought the value of investments
in UAE to AED 17.6 billion up from AED 5.8
billion in 2009, which equals a share of 5.3% in
the total amount invested during 2013.
• This rapid growth could be attributed to a
couple factors such as
Rising population: this puts upward pressure
on Quantity of basic health clinics, standard
schools, and other basic services ( barber
shops, laundry, etc.)
Rising incomes: this puts upward pressure
on quality. And hence Dubai witnessed a
rise in the number of upscale health and
beauty centers, specialized clinics, and
international schools.
Global trends: the younger generation is
more concerned over healthy lifestyles than
ever, and Dubai is no exception to the rule.

CAGR: 8.76%
• Investments in the hospitality sector reached
AED 6.5 billion in 2013, contributing around 2%
of total investment spending in UAE.
• The anticipated growth of the tourism sector,
mainly in Dubai, will drive demand for hotels
and restaurants. This future growth is already
felt now as hotel chains started increasing the
pace of investments on new projects at a solid
rate of 8.76%.
• This rate is set to rise even higher supported by
the recent decision to broaden Dubai’s mid-
priced hotel capacity supplies. The Dubai
Department of Tourism and Commerce
Marketing has recently announced an initiative
to stimulate the construction of such hotels in a
bid to attract a wider type of tourists.

30. Come approcciare il business negli UAE, suggerimenti (1/2)
‘THINK BIG’:
altre nazionalita (principalmente Indiani, Pakistani, Inglesi e Arabi)
SOLUZIONI CHIAVI IN MANO:
Spesso l’assenza di risorse competenti in loco richiede la necessita’ per un
fornitore di gestire i progetti a 360 gradi
31. Come approcciare il business negli UAE, suggerimenti (2/2)
vantaggi di filiera nonche’ la possibilita’ di 100% di proprieta’ estera;
‘Near Shore’ Capitale Umano a costo contenuto, grazie all’abbondante offerta
di soluzioni off shore provenienti da Paesi quali l’India, la Giordania, ecc.
