Working Title: No Choice But Murder!
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
As the brief says the audience is going to be 16-24, I will make sure that my idea and product will
suit this age range and for both genders. This age range would like my short film because has
suspense and will keep you interested in the short film.
The social status for my short film is C2DE. This means anyone can watch it; I’ve picked this social
status out because I think they will enjoy the short film about a murder but they don’t know who
murdered who.
I have decided that my psychographic should be emulator. This audience will appeal to my film as
they will want more out of the film, as in wanting to know what will happen next.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
At the beginning of our rotation, we had time to film some practise shots to put together a short
film. Some of the skills that I have gathered are to plan to first, e.g. print out a storyboard and draw
out the story and write down what kind of shots and camera movements that you are going to use.
This makes it more useful and helpful when you start filming so then you know where to place your
characters without having to put a lot of thought into it.
A few skills I will be requiring to know is how to edit shots to make it into a short film. I will be using
Adobe Premiere to edit my clips and to add sound effects.
Luckily, I have used Adobe Premiere before many of times so I know what kind of tools I need to
use. One of the main tools I use on Premiere is the razor which cuts down the clip. Also, with
Premiere you can create music or sound effects from elsewhere and then you can place them that
audio into Premiere and again use the razor tool to trim it down for it to make sense with the clip.
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?
How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project?
What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My idea for the short film is a murder mystery. There are three characters within this film, two
females and one male. The short film will take place at college and the forest. At the beginning of
the film, the couple are having an argument and there is girl watching them. To show the argument
was over between them, the guy runs outside upset. Nonetheless, the other lass runs after him.
The guy looks up to find that she is walking through a forest. But, at the same time he looks up he
sees shadows of a human figure running around through the trees. He hears the leaves on the
branches rustling. BLACKOUT! Next minute you know, someone has been shot and all you can
hear is heavy breathing.
I think the blackout will be effective as it will give the audience suspense as they don’t know what
is happening in the film. It will also, make the audience think about it. They won’t know who got
shot and nobody will so it leaves it up to the audience’s imagination.

From my research, I have looked at my primary and secondary audience. This helped me figure
out my audience profile. Another, source for my research is my questionnaire which I created
using Survey Monkey. From, my previous questionnaire I didn’t think about the questions properly
which then didn’t help with my research or even my product. This time, I have thought about the
questions and made sure they were appropriate. One of the questions that I asked was ‘What do
you think makes a good short film?’ the responses are what helped as the respondents gave
realistic answers such as ‘music, plot, consistency… etc’ This helped with the idea that I had in
mind as I had to go back t it and think about it again to make sure that it will appeal to my
audience.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
I will be using mostly sound effects to make my short film more interesting. By using the TASCAM
recorder, I will be able to make any sound effects I need for my work. Whilst filming, I may think of
different sound effects that I could add to my film so it will be useful to have the recorder with me.
In the film, we have to include the speech ‘Time is running out’. This is also why I have got the
TASCAM booked out because it made sense to record it in any voice we need to fit in with that
particular scene.
Only equipment I will need is a camera, tripod and a TASCAM. The tripod will be helpful as it will
keep the camera steady whilst filming. I don’t want some of my clips wonky or shaky because then
I will have to redo some of the scenes.
What specialist techniques do you need to consider?
(e.g. green screen, Steadicam, post-production, sound, etc)
Does this require any specialist equipment/training/demos?
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan to evaluate my final product by going back through my work and analysing how I’ve used my
research and planning to produce my short film and if it has been helpful. Another way, I will be
evaluating my work is by looking at the time I’ve spent and if I’ve used it wisely. Some of the
technical qualities such as audio, camera work and editing/post will be analysed as this is the main
part for the film. This will take time as I will need to talk about as the process. The best way to see
if your work was good is to talk about the strengths and weaknesses aesthetically. This will help in
the future if I produce another short film. Furthermore, as the audience is the most important, I
need to talk about how it appealed to them. Finally, I will have peers looking at my work to see if
they like it and talk about the strengths and weakness and what could be improved for next time.
How do you plan to evaluate the work?
Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final self-reflection, analysing your work and
its outcomes.

Schedule:
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Initial Response
Production Experiments
I explained how I felt when I found out our second
rotation was Short Film. The task was to come up
with a storyline about finding a key and then to
film it. Another task was to add sound effects to a
Shaun of the Dead clip. We went out in groups to
record different sound effects that were needed
after watching the clip.

Proposal
Begin Pre-production
I will look at primary and secondary research to
widen my ideas. This will help with coming up
with my audience profile. I will create a
questionnaire to also help with audience profile.
3 Pre-production
Filming
Before beginning filming, I will need to look at
drawing up a storyboard. Also, a shot list to show
clearly what camera movements, directions for
the performers and estimated time. I will have to
think about when to book out kit to start filming.
4 Filming/Editing When we start to film, I will need my shot list.
This will be helpful as it will show the shot I need
and what is happening. After filming, I will check
to see if the shots are blurry or not and if they
need to be redone.
5 Post-production
Screening/Evaluation
Throughout the editing process of the film and
editing will be logged down and spoken about to
show what I have learnt and what skills I have
used. Afterwards, I will start to evaluate my work.
