I personally consider MEDICAL and TEACHING to be the NOBLEST profession of all, for obvious reasons that are less observed and thought for. People in MEDICAL PROFESSION take care for our PHYSIOLOGICAL (The Body) WELL BEING whereas people in TEACHING PROFESSION take care for our PHYSCHOLOGICAL (The Mind) WELL BEING. Unfortunately both the professions have lost their dignity and nobility. How can we forget the most recent Delhi University Teachers strike in protest against the amendments in UGC regulations? I was surprised to notice that entire social media as well the news channel kept on giving massive coverage, where teachers posting appeals and requesting students to support their strike. All this made me think and I am writing this post not to humiliate or degrade or hurt the sentiments but to compel each one of us in this profession to seriously think that are we on moving in the right direction.

People in MEDICAL PROFESSION take care for our PHYSIOLOGICAL (The Body) WELL BEING
whereas people in TEACHING PROFESSION take care for our PHYSCHOLOGICAL (The Mind)
WELL BEING.
Unfortunately both the professions have lost their dignity and nobility.

Needless to mention that both MEDICAL and TEACHING are the only profession that allows
professionals associated with these professions to master their skills at the cost of patients
and students and get paid.
It’s high time we must introspect and give a serious thought to our contribution to the society
as responsible citizens. I don’t feel the need to quote incidences that have brought SHAME to
both these profession with few EXCEPTIONS.
IT IS NEVER TO LATE TO MAKE A FRESH START
Behavioral & Attitudinal changes that can reaffirm the NOBILITY and DIGNITY to these
professions can be enlisted as:
1. 3As
a. Awareness – being conscious for all our behavior
b. Acceptance – we reap what we sow
c. Accountability – we are responsible for all our actions
2. Sense of Entitlement

2. a. Personally from my professional experience of more than 3 decades I have
noticed that our sense of entitlement is a CANCEROUS thought that causes us
to behave the way we are behaving as of NOW.
b. Our priorities have changed. We have seen workshops and seminars on WORK-
LIFE BALANCE but with changing priorities it has now become LIFE-WORK
BALANCE, meaning there by PERSONAL LIFE has now predominantly priority
over professional priority. Probably this is the reason we don’t see medical
professionals at Govt. hospitals and teaching professionals at Colleges and
Universities.
c. Easy access to sale and purchase of degrees has made the system even worst.
So if one has paid a price to get degree than he /she considers this as his/her
investment and accordingly calculates the ROI and end up doing what we see
and hear in the news and social media.
TAKE AWAY:
We MUST empathically perform our professional duties with all dignity and grace
to reinforce faith in these professions.
Keep Sense of Entitlement in control – Be aware of your potential and caliber
Connect Empathetically.
