When the road ahead is not that smooth.

Mini-Baja is a collegiate design
competition sponsored by the
Society of Automotive Engineers.
The team’s goal was to design,
build, test, promote, and
compete with a prototype of a
single seat off-road vehicle
Define and Design
• Vehicle was designed around the driver needs and
ergonomic requirements
• Using driver feedbacks, iterations were performed
to deliver better ride performance
• Material Used : AISI 1018
seamless tubes
• Achieved weight reduction of
10.55% compared to previous year
Suspension Design
• Independent double wishbone suspension linkage
configuration was used.
• Front Uprights designed to withstand bump loads
and breaking torques with a FoS of 3.5 using EN
24
• Rear Uprights Designed to withstand bump loads
with a FoS of 1.6 using Aluminium 6063

HABITATT
Electronic Tattoos for
Emotional Wellbeing
INSPIRATION
One effective way to treat mental illness is
by helping patients rewire their existing,
negative patterns into positive, new ones.
Habitatt empowers users to interrupt
negative thought patterns and replace
them with positive ones.

HABITATT
Ideation
• We were interested in looking
into the mental health space,
and were specifically fascinated
by how we might bring habit-
forming behaviors to wearable
space.
• We brainstormed types of
habits that we could encourage
such as reminding kids to
brush their teeth but once we
settled on taking up
individual’s mental health, we
brainstormed several
interactions with tattoo.
Prototyping & Working
• Habitatt consists of three different layers on the
skin. The layer closest to the skin is an insulating
layer, designed to help mitigate noise readings due
to the natural conductivity of the skin.
• The next layer consists of conductive ink, joined to
wiring via copper tape. This serves as the actual
circuitry, which we can connect an Arduino and
other components to.
• The top layer is the art layer, or the visible tattoo
design. Based on user interviews and independent
research, we created a variety of designs
symbolically associated with healing and well-being.

Assist user when squatting and be
completely free in all other cases (standing,
walking, walking up or down stairs)

• Coded Arduino Mega to
read serial port data
from two IMUs and
actuate servomotor
which in turn would
trigger spring
mechanism
• Using IMUs, I
measured real-time
thigh angles to
differentiate between
walking downstairs and
squatting (similar
motion)
Arduino position on Exo-knee
Arduino and IMUs were programmed to
actuate a servomotor when algorithm
condition is met:
IMU1 > -40 && IMU2 >-40

Capstone Project
INSPIRATION
Over 1,000,000 high-school football players at risk of
concussion injuries in long term
Players experience about 5-10 tackles per game which are
above 90 g acceleration (concussion calibre)

Concept
• Formulated a R&D toolbox for a
new entrant to Football helmet
market.
• The toolbox contains: Go-to market
strategy, IP strategy, product
lifecycle, modelling techniques and
validation process.
• Developed a simple CAD model of
leading helmet which can be used in
future to propose design changes.

other cup. Once the top-off

Move, Explore and Gift !
INSPIRATION
Dora is a traveling gift-box, meant to
encourage people to move and explore the
space around them and spread a little joy
in their community
Dora comes with her own Twitter account
and website where she pings and maps her
current location for people to find her
along with an opinion or interesting fact.

• Once someone approaches Dora, she
greets them and expresses her desire to
go somewhere nearby. This was done
with use of proximity sensor and on-
board speakers
• Once the destination has been reached,
the user can pick a gift from the box
which gets unlocked and leave behind a
present for the next person to find.
• All this was done using an Arduino +
C3000 (Wi-Fi) + GPS breakout to
tweet live location of Dora

Smart Sponge Case
INSPIRATION
Sharing a kitchen can be challenging as
housemates try to manage their busy
schedules and remember (or avoid) to wash
the dishes.
Seamlessly embedded into the interaction
of washing dishes, Frunge allows
housemates to leave each other messages
which play back when another housemate
comes by to use the sink.

Idea Generation
• While brainstorming ideas and
sharing pictures of our kitchen,
we noticed that we all had
roommates that did not pick
up after themselves.
• So, we wanted to create an
object that not only motivated
people to clean, but rather, one
that went a level deeper and
tried to deal with the social
aspect, or lack thereof, in this
particular kitchen dynamic
Prototyping & Working
• The initial solid model was prepared on SolidWorks
and full-scale foam-core model was prepared
• Once the fitment of all components (Arduino,
Speaker and breadboard) was ensures, I made a
final model cutting colored Acrylic sheets on laser-
cutter and assembling them using tab joints &
glue.
• A housemate could record a message and when
next housemate picks up Sponge to wash dishes, it
automatically plays recorded messages (using
Photo-diode) which transforms passive aggression
into motivation.
SMOKESCOPE
5 Cent Smoke Detector
INSPIRATION
Over 3,000,000,000 people use three stone
fire for cooking food which kills about 4
million people every year due to black
smoke produced by it
LNBL has developed an efficient
cookstove but needs a low-cost device
which could measure the adoption of the
new cookstove

Prototypes
• Based on user research we wanted to
generate empathy and design a product
that fits in their environment.
• Team narrowed down on two ideas:
• A toy which absorbs smoke
• A camera device to take picture of exposed
walls
Prototype and B-Model
• Conducted multiple user interviews and
brainstorming session and developed a
SmokeScope, a camera phone which would
take pictures of exposed kitchen walls and
compare to base white color
• The housing will fit I-phone, will be made
out of ABS and will provide a controlled
environment to obtain similar image every
time product is used
• The fictitious company would leverage the
already existing Carbon credit market

SMOKESCOPE 5 Cent Smoke Detector Prototypes • Based on user research we wanted to generate empathy and design a product that fits in their environment. • Team narrowed down on two ideas: • A toy which absorbs smoke • A camera device to take picture of exposed walls Prototype and B-Model • Conducted multiple user interviews and brainstorming session and developed a SmokeScope, a camera phone which would take pictures of exposed kitchen walls and compare to base white color • The housing will fit I-phone, will be made out of ABS and will provide a controlled environment to obtain similar image every time product is used • The fictitious company would leverage the already existing Carbon credit market
