How are the underlined words used now? 
Are they used as verbs? 
What do these verbs tell?
Generalization 
- The progressive tense expresses action or being 
that is in progress or on-going. The action may 
be in the present, past or future. 
- Be verbs like am , is , are used to show present 
progressive tense. Be verbs like was , were are 
used to show past progressive tense. The word 
will + be and the main verb are used to show 
past progressive tense. The main verb 
should end with –ing.

Fill in the blank with the correct progressive form 
as indicated in parenthesis . rewrite the 
paragraph.

  • 13. Generalization - The progressive tense expresses action or being that is in progress or on-going. The action may be in the present, past or future. - Be verbs like am , is , are used to show present progressive tense. Be verbs like was , were are used to show past progressive tense. The word will + be and the main verb are used to show past progressive tense. The main verb should end with –ing.
