2. What is Heroin? Heroin is categorised as a class A drug. Heroin is a highly addictive drug. It is one of the most dangerous drugs there are. Generally white in colour and powder like. Known on the street as black tar, Heroin is usually injected and can lead to the worst addictive drug because it can be cut with other drugs such as crack and cocaine. In the western United States, most of the Heroin available is a solid substance that is black in colour. this highly addictive drug is a fast acting opiate. This is a downer drug that affects the brain's ability to feel pain and the brain's pleasure system.
3. Where does Heroin come from? Heroin comes from many places: China, Mexico, the mountains around the borders of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is made from morphine, a potent substance taken out of the seed pod of poppy plants. Opium poppies grow best in dry, warm climates. They are often grown in these areas by farmers with small plots of land. The sap is collected by the farmer, then it's bought by a merchant or broker who takes the opium to a morphine refinery. 5. How do people use it? Injecting:Heroin is injected, snorted, or smoked. Heroin can be injected intravenously (into a vein) or intra-muscularly (into a muscle). Heroin doesn't dissolve easily, so users have to dissolve it in a spoon with water before they can inject it. Addicts will inject any part of their body in their desperate craving for a Heroin hit. Smoking:Heroin is smoked using a method called 'chasing the dragon'. This involves heating up the powder on some foil, and then inhaling the fumes through a small tube. The effect from this is felt very quickly – between two and five minutes after smoking. Snorting:Snorter’s can sniff the powder up their nose, like cocaine users do or. 7. The Negative side Heart, blood and circulation– Heroin slows down your circulation and heart rate. Heroin also increases the size of certain blood vessels (making you feel warm). Stomach – It depresses bowel activity, which can result in constipation. Heroin can make you feel sick, and first-time users often vomit. Lungs – Heroin suppresses your cough reflex and slows down your breathing, causing hyperventilation. This can put you at risk of lung disease. An overdose of Heroin can cause respiratory failure and death. Nervous system– At higher doses, sedation takes over and you become drowsy. An excessive dose can produce stupor and coma, and possible death. Sexual organs– Heroin can cause irregular periods in women. In both men and women, it can make you lose interest in sex, and it affects your sexual performance.
