Effective Questioning BIG Question!  What is a facilitator?
Effective Questioning Why is it so important?     stimulates interest in the subject     finds out what your students know      finds out what your students don’t know     allows the teacher to modify the lesson

Effective Questioning Techniques Establish an appropriate environment Students should feel safe answering questions       Pose questions in a non-threatening way       Be aware of your facial expressions and tone      	of voice when responding to students       Use pre-planned  and emerging questions        Mix the types of questions employed
Effective Questioning Techniques Phrase questions carefully and concisely 		and avoid trick questions      Select volunteers and non-volunteers to answer questions      Adapt questions to the needs of the learner      Give students time to think about questions 		and answers before moving on 	Respond to answers given by students

Effective Questioning What is dialog? 	Everything that the teacher says/communicates and everything that the student says/communicates.
Effective Questioning   Why is dialog important?     It allows the teacher insight into what the student knows, what she does not know, and what she partly knows.
Effective Dialog   Effective Dialog means that the teacher has created an environment in which she is asking and receiving questions that allow the student to think and move towards greater knowledge.
Effective Questioning My favorite take-aways from the video….  - Give students time to think about questions  -  No Hands  -  White Boards  - Instead of giving rewards for correct answers, give rewards for interesting answers.
