2. SPINE
• Usually includes:
- call number of the book
- the class number
- the author number
The SPINE of a book
refers to the outside
edge of the book
where the pages are
gathered and bound.

3. COVER
Usually includes:
- picture or illustrations
- the title of the book
- the author(s)
The COVER tells the
reader what the book
will be about.
4. TITLE PAGE
• Provides the reader with
information about:
- the book’s title
- it’s author’s
- the publisher
- the publisher’s
locations
The TITLE PAGE
repeats the
information given on
the cover.
5. COPYRIGHT PAGE
The COPYRIGHT PAGE
includes the copyright
information such as:
- when the book was
published
- who or it was
published
by…
6. DEDICATION PAGE
• It is a message from
the author
expressing
appreciation to
someone for his her
help and support
The DEDICATION is
found in the front of
the book.
7. TABLE OF CONTENTS
- the titles of the
chapters or topics
- the pages on each
topic
The TABLE OF
CONTENTS lists:
8. PREFACE
• Also may be called
the Foreword or
Introduction
The PREFACE is an
explanation front of
the book.
9. BODY OR TEXT
The BODY is the
text of a book
(the story or
information).
10. FOOTNOTE
• Something related to the
topic but of less
importance that the larger
work.
The FOOTNOTE is a places
at the bottom of a page
of a book that comments
on or cites a reference
11. APPENDIX
- Located in the back of a
book.
- Most often found in
reference
books and textbooks.
The APPENDIX includes
supplementary (or
extra) information
found in the form of:
- charts
- lists
- tables
12. BIBLIOGRAPHY
• These are either books
the author has used for
research or books
recommended for
further study of the
topic.
The BIBLIOGRAPHY is
a list of books found
at the back of the
book.
13. INDEX
• It is found at the back of
the book.
The INDEX is an
alphabetical listing of
- the subject or
topics
- the pages where
they can be located
14. GLOSSARY
• The glossary usually:
- a lists of all the words
in the book
- arrange in
alphabetical order
The GLOSSARY
contains definitions of
difficult or unfamiliar
words that appear in
the book.
