by using radio waves to
the antennas on the
earth. The antennas then
capture those signals and
process the information
coming from those
signals.
15. Print media
Print media is the industry associated with
the printing and distribution of news
through newspaper and magazines . It is

28. Democracy & media as the main
source of information
Democracy means a system of
government in which all the people of a
assembly can vote to elect their
representatives . In a democratic country
like India, media plays an important role in
creating aware and enlightened citizens.
29. Role of media:
Media plays a crucial role in making a healthy
democracy. It is the backbone of a democracy. It
is like a mirror, which shows us or strives to
show us the bare truth and harsh reality of life.
30. The media has undoubtedly evolved and
became more powerful over years . It is
the media who reminds the politicians
about their unfulfilled promises of the time
of elections. This reminder compels
politicians to be upto their promises in
order to remain in power.
31. The media also exposes loopholes in the
democratic system, which ultimately helps
government in filling the vacuum of loopholes
and making the system more accountable ,
responsive and citizen-friendly. A democracy
without media is like a vehicle without wheels.
32. At the age of information technology we
are bombared with information . We get
the purse of world events with just a click
of the mouse . The flow of information has
increased manifolds . The perfect blend of
technology and human resources
(journalists) has not left a single stone
unturned in unearthing rampant in politics
and society.
33. We are all awarded of what Tehelka did
.Thanks to technology that has brought a
kind of revolution in journalism.
34. Television and newspaper
Television and newspaper are
very important means of mass
communication . Thus, reporters are
always ready to cover rallies
protest marches or local body
meeting with politician or public
officials to answer the queries and
apprehension of the people. The
queries can be about the success
or the failure of plans and facilities
promised at the time of election.
35. Radio
Radio is an audio device of passing
messages to a large audience. Radio
involves the process by which messages are
sent through electrical waves . In other words
the sound could be sent and received through
these waves. It also makes the rural , illiterate
masses aware of the latest happenings in
their region or the country on the whole.
36. Indian cinema
Indian cinema has also played an
important role in creating awareness about
social evils, political malpractices ,
economic exploitation and the fast
changing Indian society and its value
system. Some films have very important
messages and have great impact on us.
Cinema connects different culture and
reflects the society through real based
stories.
37. It keeps us aware of things happening around us in
the community . Cinemas are not only the best way
of entertainment but they also teach us . It has both
good and bad impact on us.
38. Information provided by media
Today the ever increasing hunger of the viewers
for the appropriate and live information has led to
increase in many hindi and english television
channels along with a number of regional
channels ,as the media :
reminds the politician about their unfulfilled
promises.
Their responsibilities towards their constituency
and the nation.
39. During the election , they help the people
specially the illiterates, in electing the right
person to power.
It is very important that the
information provided by media is balanced
and impartial .
40. Gagging Act (1857)
Promulgated by the governor general “Lord Canning”
on 13th June 1857 , a new press regulation was imposed
in whole of the India as an immediate result of the 1857
uprising.
This law empowered the government to ban the
circulation of any newspaper or other printed material
that could have weaken the authority of the British
government.
According to the new law , all the newspaper have to get
licence before their inception.
41. Censorship
Indian media is free. But sometimes , the government can
ban the media from broadcasting or publishing certain
items to protect the interest of our country or some
religious/cultural group. This is known as censorship.
During World War I, letters written by British soldiers
would have gone through censorship. This consisted of
officers going through letters with a black marker and
crossing out anything which might compromise
operational secrecy before the letter was sent.
42. Films have been banned and pulled from theatres or
festivals , often forcing directors to make the necessary
cuts and revisions.
43. RTI (2005)
The right to information (RTI) act of 2005
was passed on 15th June 2005.
Right to information has been judicially
recognised as part of article 19 of Indian
constitution . “ All citizens shall have the
right to freedom of speech and
expression.’’
For proper enjoyment of freedom of
speech and expression, it is imperative
that correct information is available to the
citizens.
44. The right to information is a fundamental
right in every sense of the word because it is
absolutely essential for the healthy
functioning of a modern democracy, since an
uniformed citizen cannot possibly be
expected to be a good citizen.
Under the provisions of Right to Information
act, any citizen may request information
from a ‘public authority’ ,which is required to
reply within thirty days.
45.
46. The Right To Information has enabled
the citizens to access the information
that is under the control of the public
authority . This right has promoted
transparency and accountability in the
working of different departments.
47.
48. Media like a watchdog
Media is like a watchdog in a democracy
that keeps government active and public
involved . From the position of being a
medium of information , it has become a
powerful force in our daily life . The
selection and the extent of media
coverage by a television channel or a
newspaper has set objectives behind it .
49. It is important to make a critical appraisal
of media before accepting or rejecting the
news or the views. Let us hope that the
media brings important issues to the
forefront , that are otherwise ignored. It
must constantly draw the attention of the
public and the government towards issues
like scarcity of clean drinking water , lack
of health facilities, crime and violence ,
illiteracy , female infanticide etc.
50.
51. Majdoor kisan sakti sangathan
The Majdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan is an
indian political organisation best known for
its demand for the right to information act
which grew out of the demand for
minimum wages for workers.
Vouchers and names of persons who have
paid ages in the construction of schools
Dispensaries
Small dams
Community centres
52. Documents showed that the projects were
complete, but it was a common knowledge
that funds were misused. The roofless
buildings , dispensaries without walls,
incomplete dams at community centres
having no doors and windows were a proof
of the people’s demand.

65. Ending of PPT
No one is perfect in this world , so is the media .
Here I am not degrading the media, rather I would
say there is a lot of scope for improvement by
which media can raise upto its aspiration of the
people for which it is meant . I cannot think of a
democracy without active and neutral media. For
being just a informer it has became an integral
part of our daily life. With the passage of time it
has become more matured and more responsible
entity. The present media revolution has helped
people in making an informed decision and this
has led to a beginning of a new era in democracy.
