TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF
YOUR EYES
2. Eat a healthy and balanced diet. Include foods in your
everyday meals that can help prevent diseases like
age-related macular degeneration and various
syndromes of the eyes, e.g. goji berries, bilberries,
green-leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, whole grains, sea
fish rich in omega-3 etc.
3. Expose yourself to natural outdoor light more often.
Lack of outdoor light may increase the likelihood of
becoming short-sighted.
4. While natural light is good for your eyes, caution must
be exercised so that you do not damage your eyes from
excessive exposure to ultraviolet light. The best idea is
to wear sunglasses when you go out on a sunny day!
5. While working in the lab or with any heavy or dangerous
equipment anywhere, it is always a good idea to wear
safety goggles.
6. To avoid exposing your eyes to excessive dirt and dust,
you may consider installing an air-purifying device.
7. Visit a doctor for regular eye screening, especially if you
have a family history of eye diseases, are above the
age of 40 or are suffering from diabetes or high blood
pressure.
8. Quit smoking if you are a smoker! Smoking increases
the chances of developing cataracts or age-related
macular degeneration.
9. Exercise regularly and keep your weight under control.
Obesity can put you at a greater risk of developing eye
diseases like cataracts, glaucoma etc.
10. Reduce the number of hours you spend in front of the
screen of your devices including computers, laptops,
tablets and smartphones.
11. Remember to take regular breaks every hour while
working on your devices.
12. You may use anti-glare filters for laptops or anti-glare
screen protectors for your smart devices to reduce the
amount of misdirected light entering your eyes.
13. You can also cut down on blue light from entering your
eyes with special glasses.
14. Build up a good habit of doing regular eyeball and eye
relaxation exercises.
15. Do not rub your eyes if any foreign object enters them!
Flush it out with clean, running water instead.
16. To avoid straining your eyes, refrain from reading in a
dark or dimly-lit environment.
17. Never share eye products like eye drops, mascara or
eyeliner with anyone – not even with your best friend!
18. Exercise caution when using contacts or any eye-care
products. Strictly adhere to the manufacturer’s
instructions and discontinue use if any irritation occurs.
19. Change to a milder shampoo and conditioner which do
not contain very harsh chemicals, since they always
make contact with your eyes when you wash them off
while showering.
