1. The Company
Price Chopper is a family owned and operated regional grocery chain with
more than 128 stores located in 6 states throughout the Northeast. From its
humble beginnings 75 years ago to its leadership role today, Price Chopper
started with a dream destined for success. All of the Golub family members
hold true to the hallmarks of the company: community involvement, customer
service and appreciation, and welcoming associates into the family atmosphere.
This commitment reaches far beyond the Golub name; it’s the heart and soul of
all the family members, the guiding principle of the company each and every
day, into the future. Price Chopper is committed to “Growing Greener” with all
new ground-up construction meeting a minimum of L.E.E.D. Silver accreditation
requirements and all remodels using the newest and most sustainable
technologies.
The Challenge
Price Chopper contacted SmartWatt Energy, Inc., to conduct a full-building
audit of all lighting systems in their main freezer warehouse facility in
Rotterdam, NY, for potential energy-savings upgrades. The company’s goals
were to dramatically improve the quality and quantity of light for employees,
save money on energy costs, achieve central control of all lighting systems and
to reduce their environmental impact.
Smart Savings
In addition to improved conditions, Price Chopper will enjoy the following
realized energy savings from this LED lighting upgrade project:
• Annual Energy Savings: $63,552
• Annual Displaced Energy: 351,196 kWh
• EPAct 2005 Tax Deduction: $83,320
National Grid Rebate: $84,041
Green Impact
This project has led to the equivalent reduction of 533,513 pounds of carbon
dioxide, removing pollutants from the air and having the same effect on the
environment as:
