Children are snacking more today than 25 years ago. The
number of times kids eat between meals has increased.
These snacks provide less calcium than regular meals and
are higher in calories and fat. There is increased
consumption of soft drinks, chips and salty snacks, and
decreases in fruit, vegetables and milk. Such eating habits
can cause diseases. Hence, it is better to consume balanced
meals.

WHAT IS A BALANCED MEAL?
A meal is balanced when it contains at
least one item from each of the three
food groups (food for energy, growth and
health). By eating balanced meals, we
can decrease the risk of developing
diseases such as diabetes, high blood
pressure and heart disease.
