Topic Project Facilitators Description
Access to Justice Hack Night Taxi Project
Kulsum
Ameji
The “sharing economy” is much touted for its disruptive capabilities. Yet, many policy,
legal, and regulatory issues intersect in nuanced ways in the “sharing economy.” What are
the long-term implications for customers/consumers and for low-wage workers who exist
in the contradictory space between traditional, highly regulated systems and new,
“disruptive” economic systems? How can technology be used to enhance the
functionality of these systems and to strengthen consumer and driver’s rights?
Crowd-Sourced
Mapping/GIS
Geotrails
Eric
Sherman
Exploring ways to create interactive web maps with crowd-sourced input. Current project:
Geotrails is a simple mapping project that 'connects the dots' geographically. Each user
can submit up to four points, each representing where respective generations of their
family lived. The combined map will show all entries together, creating an interactive
crowd-sourced visualization of how disparate origins combine together to create a single
powerful story of immigration/migration.

programs. Our end goal is to train the next generation of civic technology leaders by
finding new ways to support innovative programs and educators. If you have a project idea
or want to get involved, come to our working group!

Mapping the Demand for Better
Transit
John Krause
We’re mapping the density of people sitting on buses throughout the city in order to
show where there’s enough ridership to warrant upgrading from buses stuck in traffic to
something better—like a bus lane, BRT, or light rail. What other factors do we need to
consider in determining if a dedicated transit lane is warranted?
