 A security system is implemented with the help of RFID technology
The conveyor belt is modified in a way which will avoid theft baggage
that may occur at airport
 With the help of RFID tag, RFID reader and baggage belt, our system
is providing lock to each baggage. Hence the person having a valid
ticket can get his respective baggage
 Most of the world’s airports use a scanner and a paper printed
barcode for baggage identification.
 But there is no monitoring system at the exit for baggage theft
 In Mar 2014, IATA(International air transport association) has
reported that around 14million luggage are misplaced, lost or
subjected to theft annually around the world
Problem statement
The figure below shows a picture of the
bigger problem at hand:
 One has to wait in the queue for a long time
 This causes increase in traffic near the conveyors
 In case a passenger fails to collect his baggage from the conveyor
he has to wait for a long time before his baggage can reappear and
hence there is a possibility of theft of the baggage
Disadvantages of existing system
RFID technology
• It basically consists of a RFID tag which
acts as a transmitting
• Antenna and an RFID reader which is a
receiving antenna
• The reader reads the EPC on RFID and a
data base connected to the reader
• Identifies the data associated with the
tag.

Software used for database
 Visual Basic 6.0 is used as frontend language for database
• The structure of the Basic programming language is very
simple
• Interactive development environment
• Easy to develop graphical user interfaces
 Microsoft access is used for backend database creation
• Provides lot of flexibility and simplicity in database creation
• Easily available with Microsoft office package
• Compatible with all kinds of systems
 Database for the system is created in Microsoft access
 This database is connected to VB6 using ADODB command
 Figure below shows database of the system:

Visual basic 6.0 front-end GUI
 The use of passive RFID tags improves system reliability
 RFID technology overcomes the disadvantages of barcode scanner
 Security is assured due to the locking system
 Possibility of theft is reduced
Advantages
 RFID readers should be installed at a suitable distance to
avoid the confusion of reading multiple tags
Limitations
 Anti-theft mechanism and luggage security will be ensured with this
system
 Interfacing RFID reader with the timer and GSM module the
passenger may be pre-informed about the exact time of arrival of his
luggage on the conveyor
 The same RFID based luggage security technique can be
implemented in following transport systems:
• 1A/2A/3A class in trains
• Air conditioned buses
• Ships
Future Scope
 The RFID is considered as a significant tool to provide traceable
visibility along different stages of the aviation supply chain
 RFID tags are used to improve the management efficiency and the
users’ satisfaction
 Such system can also be implemented in other transport systems in
order to increase security

RFID-based airport baggage anti-theft system

  • 1.   • 2.  A security system is implemented with the help of RFID technology The conveyor belt is modified in a way which will avoid theft baggage that may occur at airport  With the help of RFID tag, RFID reader and baggage belt, our system is providing lock to each baggage. Hence the person having a valid ticket can get his respective baggage
  • 3.  Most of the world’s airports use a scanner and a paper printed barcode for baggage identification.  But there is no monitoring system at the exit for baggage theft  In Mar 2014, IATA(International air transport association) has reported that around 14million luggage are misplaced, lost or subjected to theft annually around the world Problem statement
  • 4. The figure below shows a picture of the bigger problem at hand:
  • 5.  One has to wait in the queue for a long time  This causes increase in traffic near the conveyors  In case a passenger fails to collect his baggage from the conveyor he has to wait for a long time before his baggage can reappear and hence there is a possibility of theft of the baggage Disadvantages of existing system
  • 6. RFID technology • It basically consists of a RFID tag which acts as a transmitting • Antenna and an RFID reader which is a receiving antenna • The reader reads the EPC on RFID and a data base connected to the reader • Identifies the data associated with the tag.

  • 13. Module 2: For wireless data transmission i.e. ZigBee module
  • 14. Module 3: For generating control signal i.e. Microcontroller module
  • 15. Module 1: For swiping RFID tag  EM18 (RFID Reader): 125KHz  MAX 232: Serial interfacing for PC  LM7805: Voltage regulator
  • 16. Module 2: For wireless transmission of data to database  XBEE: Wireless trans-reciever  MAX232: Serial interfacing for PC  LM1117: Adjustable voltage regulator
  • 17. Module 3: To generate control signal for lock  AT89S52: Microcontroller for generating control signal  ULN2003A: High-voltage, high-current darlington arrays  Relay for driving motor  XBEE: Wireless trans-reciever LM7805: Voltage regulator  LM1117: Adjustable voltage regulator
  • 18. RFID tags used  Passive RFID tags of frequency 125KHz  For passenger and baggage ID
  • 19. Software used for database  Visual Basic 6.0 is used as frontend language for database • The structure of the Basic programming language is very simple • Interactive development environment • Easy to develop graphical user interfaces  Microsoft access is used for backend database creation • Provides lot of flexibility and simplicity in database creation • Easily available with Microsoft office package • Compatible with all kinds of systems

  • 22.  The use of passive RFID tags improves system reliability  RFID technology overcomes the disadvantages of barcode scanner  Security is assured due to the locking system  Possibility of theft is reduced Advantages
  • 23.  RFID readers should be installed at a suitable distance to avoid the confusion of reading multiple tags Limitations
  • 24.  Anti-theft mechanism and luggage security will be ensured with this system  Interfacing RFID reader with the timer and GSM module the passenger may be pre-informed about the exact time of arrival of his luggage on the conveyor  The same RFID based luggage security technique can be implemented in following transport systems: • 1A/2A/3A class in trains • Air conditioned buses • Ships Future Scope
  • 25.  The RFID is considered as a significant tool to provide traceable visibility along different stages of the aviation supply chain  RFID tags are used to improve the management efficiency and the users’ satisfaction  Such system can also be implemented in other transport systems in order to increase security Conclusion
