• Body movement
What are We Communicating Right Now??

Split up into pairs, choosing a
partner that you know and trust.
Once situated, your pair will be
                 provided two storybooks. Find a
private space in which the two of
you can take turns reading a
                 storybook to one another. While
one partner reads, the other must
study their every move. Using the
                 components covered previously,
                 make notes regarding your
                 partner’s non-verbal
                 communication.
Additional Non-Verbal Tactics…
• Organization of lessons
  and sequence

  classroom materials and
  resources

  other teachers
• Your interactions with
  visitors that come into
  the room
• Your interactions with
  other students
Reading Our Students’ Non-Verbal Communication…

                        • Welcome each student at the
                          door
                        • Digest the student’s
                          appearance…is it out of the
                          ordinary?
                        • Observe their general
                          demeanor
                        • Observe their reactions to you
                        • Observe their reactions to
                          others
                        • If you feel the need to address
                          concerns, do so privately
Verbal Communication…
• Demeanor
• Vocal range/volume
• Use of voice to control student
  response

  verbally
How Have You Grown Personally?
             Thinking back to those first
             few microteaching
             experiences, consider your
             own personal goals for
             improving your
             presentation style. How
             have you addressed those
             concerns in internship?
             Have you noticed
             improvements? How so?
Media Communication…

Fostering Good Communication Skills in Our Students…

                               Within pairs,
                               consider some
                               exercises that you
                               would employ to
                               help foster good
                               communication
                               skills among your

Issues Inherent in Art Education…

 • Sketchbook entries
 • Mature topics
 • Questions that may
   throw you for a loop
 • Feeling of insecurity

 How would you react
  as teacher?
