 What is Internet?

    Internet is an arrangement of
    connected computers whch lets the
computer users all over the world
    exhange datas.
 On 1957, USSR launched Sputnik, the first
    artificial satellite on Earth.

 In response, US formed Advance
  Research Project Agency (ARPA)
 Advancing them in the field of Science
and Technology which can help their
  military.
 1962 – Tasked Rand Paul Baran to study
on how they could have control to
missiles and bombs after a nuclear
  attack.
PROPOSAL: PACKET SWITCHING

 1972 – Ray Tomlinson created the first e-
  mail program.
 1973 - DARPA developed a new protocol
  call TCP/IP
 1974 – The word Internet was first used.
 1976 - Ethernet was first used by Dr.
  Robert M. Metcalfe.
 1981 - National Science Foundation
created CSNET 56 Kbps network for
  institution without access to the
  ARPANET.
 1983 - Every machine connected to
  ARPANET used TCP/IP.
 1984 - The ARPANET was divided into two
but both networks were still supported by
  the Military.
       - The netwroks were ARPANET and
  MILNET.
 1985 - The National Science Foundation
developed T1 lines which was 1.5 Mbps.
 1986 - IETF or The Internet Engineering
  Task Force was developed.
         - Served as a forum.
 1987 - BITNET and CSNET were merged to
form the Corporation for Research and
  Educational Networking (CREN).
 1988 - After the completion of the T1
  NSFNET backbone, traffic increased
  quickly.
         - they have to upgrade quickly.
 1990 - IBM, Merit and MCI created a non-
  profit corporation called ANS
  (Advanced Network and Services).
 1991 - The NSF established a new
  network, named NREN, the National
  Research and Education Network.
 1992 - In this year the Internet Society
  was chartered.
         - World Wide Web was first
  released.
       - NSFNET backbone was upgraded
  to T3 (44.736Mbps)
 1993 - The InterNIC was created by NSF
  to provide specific Internet services.
 1994 - There were no major changes.
          - Internet expanded vastly around
  the world.
 1995 - The National Science Foundation
discontinued direct access to the NSF
  backbone from April 30, 1995.
 1996 - Most Internet traffic is carried by
  backbones of independent
  ISPs, including
  MCI, AT&T, Sprint, UUNet, BBN
  planet, ANS, and more.
 2000 - This was the period when the
    investors and businessmen started
    making money in the Internet.
 WHAT IS CELL PHONE?

A cellular phone is a wireless phone that
    most people these days communicate
    with
 1865 - Doctor Mahlon Loomis

    through wireless atmosphere.

 1973 – Martin Cooper came out with
    Motorola.

 In 1988 the big company's started to
    make cell phones.
 How deep does Cell phone and Internet
    affects us?

.. We cannot eliminate them in our lives
   anymore.
 Communication becomes more easy.
 Entertainment
 It updates us.
 So addictive
 Health issues
 Early exposure to pornographic videos
  and images
 Distraction
 GUIDELINES/TIPS

  2. Packet switching is the breaking down of data into data grams or packets that are labeled to indicate the origin and the destination of the information and the forwarding of these packets from one computer to another computer until the information arrives at its final destination computer. This was crucial to the realization of a computer network. If packets are lost at any given point, the message can be resent by the originator1972 - The Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was renamed The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (or DARPA). ARPANET was using Network Control Protocol or NCP to transfer data, allowing communications between hosts running on the same network.1973 - headed by Vinton Cerf of Standform and Bob Kahn of DARPA. This protocol is used to interconnect and communicate various computer with each other.
  3. 1976 - This is used to move the datas extremely fast and this has a huge role in developing the LANs1981 - Vinton Cerf planned to have an inter-connection between CSNET and ARPANET.1983 - This became the core Internet Protocol. The University of Wisconsin created Domain Name System (DNS). - This allowed packets to be directed to a domain name, which would be translated by the server database into the corresponding IP number. - This made it much easier for people to access other servers, as there was no need to remember numbers.
  4. 1984 - ARPANET was to support the advance research component while MILNET was to provide for the needs of the Military.1985 – 25 times faster than 50 kbps. Finished on 1988.1986 - for technical coordination by contractors for DARPA working on ARPANET, US Defense Data Network (DDN), and the Internet core gateway system.
  5. 1987 - another work of National Science Foundation.1990 - It was formed to research for a high speed networking. They came up with T3 which is 45 Mbps line. NSF immediately adopted the new network and at the end of 1991 all of the sites were connected to T3 lines. - While T3 lines were being constructed, the Department of Defense disbandeded ARPANET and replaced by NSFNET. All sites connected to the 50 Kbps were removed.
  6. 1991 - The objective of this network was to conduct high speed networking research. It was not to be used as a commercial network, nor was it to be used to send a lot of the data that the Internet now transfers.
  7. 1993 - directory and database services (by AT&T), registration services (by Network Solutions Inc.), and information services (by General Atomics/CERFnet). 1994 - when Internet expanded in the world vastly. There were hundreds of thousands of new hosts were added to the Internet. Pizza hut offers pizza ordering in its web page. First Virtual, the first cyberbank, opens. ATM (Asynchronous Transmission Mode, 145Mbps) backbone is installed on NSFNET. WebCrawler, the first full-text Search Engine was created1995 - The National Science Foundation contracted with four companies that would be providers of access to the NSF backbone (Merit). These companies would then sell connections to groups, organizations, and companies. - $50 annual fee is imposed on domains, excluding .edu and .gov domains which are still funded by the National Science Foundation. Industry leaders, at least at the time, Yahoo! and Altavista were founded.1996 - Currently the Internet Society, the group that controls the INTERNET, is trying to figure out new TCP/IP to be able to have billions of addresses, rather than the limited system of today. - The problem that has arisen is that it is not known how both the old and the new addressing systems will be able to work at the same time during a transition period.
  8. A report done by JupiterResearch shows that 1.1 billion people currently are taking advantage of regular access to the Internet. The same report anticipates that the number of people with online access will increase with 38 percent between 2006 and 2011. One can only say that the future of the web is looking bright.
  9. In 1980, people were contented with the telephones in their houses. As technology grows, the demand of the people grew also(what is cell phone?) Library.thinkquest.org
  10. . He came up with the idea of transmitting and receiving messages through atmosphere as a conductor. Loomis was awarded 50,000 for his research. He took the project and let the people of New York see it. In 1977 the first cell phone was made in Chicago . When it first came out 2000 people was given a free trial. Then other places started to make cell phones. There were over 54 places all over the world.
