Is it something that has always been in you or is it something that you developed along your career? • Dad had three businesses! He would retire, get bored, and start a business from a random idea and he ended up having 13 stores the he eventually sold and continued on from there. • I have a keen interest in leadership and business, so even in my roles working for tech companies I’ve used my entrepreneurial spirit to innovate. • Not only do I love learning I also love teaching. Owning a startup and writing books gave me the opportunity to scale what I’ve learned to help others succeed.

Which similarities or differences can you speak to regarding how you navigated these spaces? • Difference: 1 way door/2 way door • Difference: Resources.. • Similar: AWS runs like a startup to drive innovation- 2 pizza teams, embracing failure, working backwards, etc. • Similar: Customer Obsession • Similar: Persistent: OK with being misunderstood….

What are ways thatAWS is assisting the Texas startup community directly, particularly for women entrepreneurs? (1/2) 1. AWS is committed to working with Entrepreneurs in Texas. AWS – 3 new buildings; Over 7000 Employees in Austin (7114) alone, and more than 70,000 across Texas. <full Number came from Pub Policy, Austin from Old Fart> 2. Partnering with organizations like the Capital Factory includes sponsoring events like this for women and other underrepresented groups allows us to connect with diverse entrepreneurial communities like that here in Austin. 3. We are engaged across Texas, not just in Austin – we are big believers in Josh’s “Texas Manifesto” and the power and potential across Texas. 4. We work with those emerging from institutions from Texas community colleges to the major universities- UT Austin funnels the most students into the public sector! 5. Left my heart in TEXAS- Austin is my all time favorite city!

This means that we can really provide an assist to entrepreneurs as they begin the challenging process of raising funds

This wasn’t just part of an overall decrease in VC funding. In 2019, 2.8% of funding went to women-led startups and in 2020, that fell to 2.3%. So, we know that women have raised less capital overall. What advice would you give to female founders trying to raise capital and who could feel discouraged by these statistics? • Partner with AWS/ Come to BuildHER/ Get support from Girls in Tech – DON”T GIVE UP- • Female founders are more 15% profitable but 40% less likely to be funded • Ask the right question to get the answer you want – that’s what they have to do

Amazon Marketplace Amazon Marketplace is an e-commerce platform owned and operated by Amazon that enables third-party sellers to sell new or used products on a fixed-price online marketplace alongside Amazon's regular offerings. https://sell.amazon.com/sell?ref_=asus_soa_rd& 3. The Amazon Flywheel or Amazon Virtuous Cycle is a strategy that leverages on customer experience to drive traffic to the platform and third-party sellers. That improves the selections of goods, and Amazon further improves its cost structure so it can decrease prices which spins the flywheel.

It navigates patients to the right care setting and resources, while also providing easy appointment scheduling. Neuro Rehab VR, from Fort Worth, Texas, is a health technology company reinventing training exercises for physical and cognitive therapy by leveraging virtual reality and neuroplasticity for recovery. It allows providers to track their patients in real time and has shown increased patient engagement. OneRecord, headquartered in New York, is giving patients access to their data. Their app helps patients build a consolidated health record of their entire medical history in a single place. Pieces, based in Florida, uses AI to assess and connect patients and health systems with solutions that address social determinants of health. They connect care providers to actionable data, people to services, and caseworkers to information. Pieces makes it easier to input, manage, store, organize, and gain insight from the data to connect with sources that meet social determinants of health.
